Bodybuilding
« on: March 12, 2012, 09:09:09 AM »
Share everything about bodybuilding here.

I've been doing bodybuilding (natural) for about 4,5 years now. I started when I was 16 years old.
I train 4 times a week and make sure I eat clean and good stuff. High protein and almost no sugar that is.
My length is 1m78 and I weigh 87kg.

Working out at the gym gives me a great feeling, it's some sort of stress relief for me.

Was wondering if anybody else does this as a hobby? It requires some dedication ofcourse, staying away from the bad foods is hard.

I've considered doing it, because I want to get a bit more muscular instead of fat :x

I want to try and do it, but I never got a chance due to all the stuff I've been doing. It's too bad though since 'm SUPPOSED to be doing it cause I'm way too skinny for my own good...>.>

Used to, started when I was 15 because my dad did it, I got big then couldn't be arsed and went to MMA instead. I currently weigh 60-63kg and im 5ft 4(162cm) but I squat 2.5 times my bodyweight and bench nearly double. I can also tricep press my own bodyweight above my head. Not impressive weights on their own but pound for pound im pretty strong.

What diets do you guys use? I don't use supplements, I like everything natural from food. It's easy to get enough protein if you eat the right stuff I think and protein shakes are a waste of money. I don't eat fatty foods either because of keeping a low weight to fight so my diet isn't perfect for bodybuilding.
So I eat stuff like:
cottage cheese
baked beans
fish portions like cod and haddock because its less fatty then red meat, I also eat a lot of tuna
skimmed milk - 0.1% fat but all the protein
chicken
eggs - a couple a day at the most because of the fat content
red meat like beef or mince but only a couple of times a week
I only have 1 meal a day that includes rice or pasta(or quinoa) as too many carbs turn to fat (again thinking of weight).
quinoa is a great alternative to rice and pasta because it has a fair bit of protein too, its a super food.

I don't "diet" or eat healthy. I just burn off the calories and fat by exercising

What diets do you guys use?
I'll try to answer this as honest as possible. The foods you are eating are good. But there are a couple of things that aren't very right in your post.
Eating fat doesn't make you fat considering it's fat from healthy sources, like natural peanut butter, almonds, other nuts, avocado's, fish, meat,...
The only single thing that makes you gain weight is eating more than maintenance. Maintenance can be calculated on various sites, just google it.
As long as you don't eat more than that amount, you won't gain weight.
Healthy fats are essential to feel good and even to burn fat.
I saw that you only eat 1 carb meal a day. Eating low in carbs will help you to lose fat a little faster, but it will cause you to drain your energy if you don't make up for it in fats.
Carbs are needed for energy, especially if you're a fighter. Carbs will make you look fuller too (in muscle that is, not fat).
The protein part of your diet is great. I think you're eating a sufficient amount of protein, which is beneficial for your muscles.

What I like to do is go on a low carb diet for 4 days and then have a 1 day of high carbs. On that high day, my muscles really show.
Ofcourse, I only do this to lose fat, because carb-cycling works for me.
But if you're just trying to maintain weight, I would suggest to eat some more carbs. It won't make you fat. Eating too many kcals per day, that will make you fat.
Will start a new topic here soon, writing a guide on how to lose weight. Will provide information proven by science, but also by personal experience.

I am actually half a stone over weight and I have to cut it every time to fight so im always struggling to lose weight, I can easily gain another stone too if im not careful. I don't care what I look like either, being muscley doesn't interest me as much as making sure im fit and strong and everything works.
If there's anything you think I can add to my diet to help though please let me know, those foods are getting pretty old after all these years.

I just acquired another 50kg of weights for my gym, I need to get even stronger now to lift them all :D
I might start proper bodybuilding and look to get bigger instead of doing half and half, I can't really decide what I want.

Just arm muscles? Buy some dumb bells and do triceps and biceps. Do normal curl and hammer curl for biceps, 1 arm tricep extensions for triceps, that should see you ok. For losing fat there is no easy way, you need to burn more calories than you eat, so diet and exercise.
