Devon's top 10 games of 2016
« on: January 02, 2017, 01:10:22 PM »
The Top 10 Games of 2016 and by Top 10 I mean the 8 different games I've played this year.

Welcome everyone to my first and last top 10 list ever.

Criteria

To be eligible for this list, I have had to physically play a game or at least watch some gameplay footage or Game Grumps play it or some shit. Also there are no console games on this list because fuck that no game on Earth is worth throwing down a halfthou for.

Honorable Mentions
Yeah I don't have enough for 10 and yet I have HMs. Funny that.

Pokemon: Academy Life
A somewhat mature take on PKMN, forgoing the adventure for a school setting and trading catching pokemon to catching some pussy. Most of the major players in the PKMN series turns up and are written somewhat faithfully (Blue is an asshole, Oak is scatterbrained, Bianca is autistic etc.) while some are made more "interesting" (Hubert is a raging asshole, Shauna is now completely hysterical). Right now the Demo is up to 0.0.2c and features an entire day of story. We'll see if this can avoid Nintendo's Brother Eye in the future.

NBA 2K17
Normally a game I've put 99 hours into would be ranked, but the 2K series have been circling the toilet for a while and this game is the last straw. 2K should be embarrassed by the heavy-handedness they're pushing microtransactions.

8: HuniePop

You have sex by matching icons really fast. This game is also filled with some of the most cringiest, unintentionally funny dialogue in indy games. But yeah, match icons, move the story along, pantsu, repeat until you're fucking catgirls and aliens.

7: Starbound

Sometime around the release of No Man's Sky I realized I had owned Starbound since the week it popped out on Early Access. When I first got it I didn't really like it much, but 2 or so years and tons of updates later I have to give this game props because it's actually a really fun, engaging game that holds your interest for a while.

6: Spintires

A great modding "game" where you deliver timber or not. I usually just download a map and go trailing on my Toyota Hilux.

5: Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2

The game that got a bunch of 13-year old Brazilian kids into 3D modelling and game modding. Xenoverse 2 picks up where Xenoverse 1 left off and if you're a veteran of the first there is literally nothing new of note here. But since the first Xenoverse was so solid that sticking point can be excused.

4: Pokemon Uranium

A good pokemon game let down a little by the edgy writing and halfcooked fakemon. This game fell victim to a quick takedown from Nintendo that had the original programmers so spooked that they quietly disowned it. The community that had built around it rallied around quickly enough and took over development, but not before Games Media picked up on the story and erroneously reported the game DEAD.

3: AM2R

The second game on this list to be struck down by Brother Ninty, AM2R or "Another Metroid 2 Remake" was a passion project from DoctorM64 that was released last August to celebrate Metroid's 30th anniversary. Unlike when Capcom used Street Fighter X Mega Man to celebrate Mega Man's 25th anniversary Nintendo decided the best course of action was to pull down their pants and fuck Metroid fans in the ass with their AIDS infested penis, celebrating the anniversary by issuing a takedown ON THE DAY OF RELEASE.

Venting aside, AM2R is an excellent take on the old school Game Boy platformer, taking cues from the GBA games Metroid Fusion and Metroid Zero Mission, AM2R constructs a large and flowing map that takes you to the center of planet SR388.

2: American Truck Simulator

Short loads during the day, long desert loads during the night. Take the back roads and turn the radio onto Wild Rock Radio and cruise through the American West.

1: 100% RNGuice

POPPO POPOPOPPO!

And there we have it, 8 games I played last year. It took me 90 minutes to write this up. I could have been watching porn.

And yes, 100% Orange Juice is my GOTY, and it was released in 2013. Blow me.

We should play a few rounds of RNGuice some time. That game was like nicotine for me, man.

Ha, you actually did make an article.

I like how all of your games are indies and fan made games.
