Pow News: Arctic melt releasing ancient gas
« on: May 21, 2012, 04:12:44 AM »
To be fair I only really bothered posting this up because its serious but it gave me a bit of a chuckle with the way they worded it initially. It was then changed to "Arctic melt releasing ancient methane".
But anyway, there are a multitude of sites in the arctic that have been reported to have been storing methane gas for over a millennia underneath the ice, as the ice melts this gas is released into the atmosphere.
As well all know, methane contributes to global warming alongside CO2, so this new discovery could potentially harm our chances of stabilizing our current situation with keeping harmful gas emissions under control.
For some reason I don't think many of you will care very much by this point, so I'll keep it blunt....

...our slow progress to our deaths has just been given a little bit of a push, but just a little~

OMG, ANCIENT CONSTIPATED FART IS BEING RELEASED!

Anyway, this is really bad news. The way how the environment is being thrown off balance, I'm not surprised if 2012 DOES happen.

2012 is inevitable, it just might not be in 2012.
The end is nigghhh

Anyway, global warming is still very debatable.

You know, I read that as HNNNGHHHHH

How is it debatable? Isn't the climate change quite obvious?

It should be obvious to anyone that objectively looks at the data that our planet's climate changes. It changes often, it changes dramatically, and it often changes very quickly. We all know that weather changes, we make jokes about it. Climate is simply weather over time. It's changing, but it's not a "dooooooomsday" change.

Point take on the doomsday change thing. :\

But I have to disagree with climates often changing quickly. I admit, I haven't read that much articles, but c'mon. A few decades ago, the ice caps barely melted and are barely noticed. Now, it's melting at a faster rate.

Lol. a little phase. every year. The summer that comes is the hottest summer yet. which is a good indication of how our planet keeps warming up more and more. also ice caps melt faster each year. i still dont see how global warming can be seen as a hypothesis when there are clear indications of it

Yeah but is it really caused by us? We have ice ages and warm periods every so often, I don't think the dinosaurs drove around in cars releasing CO2.

I'm just gonna assume that dinosaurs produced more methane than the common cow. So its possible that they did enough damage by themselves.
Though, this is with my limited knowledge on dinosaurs, so I'm most likely wrong.

i never really mentioned if it was caused by us. just that there are clear indications that our planet is getting warmer each year. ive even read in some articles that humans only produce 2% of CO2 with all out activities. Most of the CO2 comes from natural activities like water vaporing or animals

I know nothing of the figures so I'll take your word but that means there's not much point worrying about it or trying to stop it and we're not the cause. Even if we havlved our activities it would only happen 1% slower.

About the climate change... Well... I seriously think we are looking it from the wrong way... Everybody is blaming each other... Trying to point it to one thing... While everybody is causing it. Everybody is a part of the blame and seriously... I understand some people not caring about it at all since they gotten so sick of the non stop nagging to change... We work each other on each other nerves and that isn't bringing us any further >.>

exactly. our activities really dont mean anything with contributing with global warming. it may be a scheme to try to sell new products or services, or just try to change people. but the problem is we might be coming near another ice age. since the planet is getting warmer, it needs to cool off sometime. according to this article pow posted. methane gas is being exposed, how much of this gas is stored in the ice? it could be a significant amount, contributing to global warming

Dude. We're talking about Global Warming. Not Global Pollution. Hell, the waterbeds are barely affected by Global Warming.
