Jonez said that the bucket method wasn't an effective way of obtaining obsidian, I beg to differ. I set myself a challenge.

I created so much obsidian that it would take me 4 to 5 screenshots to show you the entire field of obsidian. This was done within 15 minutes, 10 minutes to mine deep enough and find lava, 5 minutes to convert everything to obsidian. I rest my case~

I think I should rephrase my statement. There isn't any very effective way to build a obsidian generator.

though the way you phrased it previously made it sound like you knew a better way, especially when you said that I had much to learn on the subject. The bucket method is quite possibly the most time effective way of obtaining mass quantities of obsidian. I don't see a need for a obsidian generator, building such a thing would cost more time than this method.

We mean, we don't know if there's a way to make an unlimited amount of obisidian with 1 lava bucket.

I tried making a sem-automatic infinite obsidian in creative mode but I ended up with a semi-automatic cobblestone machine. =/

I think thats impossible considering the water needs to hit the source lava and not just the lava in general, once the source lava has been hit then you can no longer use it. So even if you did manage to make a machine produce obsidian, you'd need to reload it every single time.

I think doing it manually is the most effective way, I think when it comes to obsidian there will only be a finite amount of it, unless lava is randomly generated every so often.

Ah, so that's how you make obsidian!
If only I knew that  a few hours ago...

There's a way to generate obisidian using redstone. It's not infinite, but it's safe and you can get the obsidian whenever you need it, you just need to have the redstone supply for it.
