Pow News: Old-style internet addresses are running out!
« on: September 15, 2012, 06:03:40 PM »

Well its been a while, but I got back here eventually.

Anyhoo lets start off with this rather interesting article:

"Europe has almost exhausted its stock of old-style internet addresses." is what I glanced at and it forced me to read more into the subject.
What I gathered was that ever since the 1970's the internet has been handing out IP addresses using something called "IPv4" and now it has come to the point where the net has expanded so much that there simply isn't enough combinations that IPv4 can produce that will satisfy the needs of modern day net.

So now there is only a few thousand addresses left in the IPv4 and now the techy guys are developing IPv6 which will produce "an effectively inexhaustible supply of addresses."

Here is the article: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-19600718

So, what do you think about that, eh?

well...
IPv6 is already long developed, so "is developing" isn't quite right
though 6th June 2012 is IPv6 launch day
