4Chan is at it again
« on: September 23, 2012, 04:23:57 PM »
Not too long ago, a message was found on 4chan that threatened to kill students at Skyline highschool which then prompted the local police to close the school and investigate further.

Although the school is open now, they still have yet to find the one who posted the threat as the person in question had used a proxy server to mask his IP.

Whether this threat was real, or simply a publicity stunt preformed by a supposedly loyal 4Channer, is hard to say.

So, what do you think of this?

Typical 4Chan.
Not sure why they make a big deal of it this time.

To be fair, I don't think the police even needs to investigate. The 4Chan community have quite the history of solving "internet cases" and tracking down the identities of fellow 4Channers.

But yeah, the chance of this being real is very slim. Most likely just a 14 year old 4Channer being a silly bugger lol

Bwehh, If I was 30, I wouldn't want to have sex with a 16y old girl who falls in love with 30y olds. They must be fucked up.

When they said "not well known", they were most likely comparing it to the social networking giants, such as Facebook, Twitter and (regrettably) Google+. Though that is quite the noobish mistake, 4Chan is a giant in its own respect.

Ask around. Most elders know or even joined Facebook, Twitter is a familiar word to them too. But if you ask them about 4Chan, most will say they've never heard of it.
Those people are still the biggest part of the world population.

It really depends on how you view "elderly", but since there are more people living longer due to medical advances, you could argue that they are indeed the majority. It really depends on viewpoint though.

More than half of the people I know don't know 4chan. When I say a meme, they think its 9GAG. It's not statistics, but you get the point.

It's all about what they like and NOT what actually is. They don't care whether 4chan attacks a government website or anything. So long as it isn't within their field of interests nor does it affect them in any way, 4chan wouldn't be exactly recognized by the less-familiar-of-the-internet people, which is by the way, the majority.

I sort of disagree about depending on viewpoints

thats why I said its off topic
less-familiar-of-the-internet people isn't completely comprised of elder people

Well the population pyramid isn't the main structure of Sociological viewpoints you know, it is only a singular viewpoint that has gained traction. Sociology dictates that there is no set age for any of the life phases and that they are subject to change depending on the environment, culture and viewpoint of the individual. So what you are observing is simply a popular viewpoint.

but in order to collect the data you need something to base it off? Otherwise you literally just have a bunch of numbers without any particular meaning.

Okay, look at this way. If sociology dictates that there is no set age for a life phase, that its subject to change depending on variables that effect the individual. Then how does one form of collecting data produce results that are universal? It's simply one of the many ways you can view age groups, there are various factions such as New Right, Maxist, Post Modernism ect who all have differing opinions, and countless more individuals whole also do. You cannot look upon it at a biological view either since the term "elderly" is a concept that has been created by society, which in turn changes.
What I am trying to convey here, is that there is no single way to determine what is "elderly". It changes, there is no way around that, what you believe to be elderly won't be the same as the next person. There is no single answer.

huh?
I always thought old is elderly
am I living a lie?
bu...but society agreed that 60+ is elderly
wait I get it, it changes yes
but most of the world view 60+ is elderly

you know what?
tl;dr
common sense
old is elderly
old is 60+
therefore elderly is 60+

Society isn't a single entity you know, the society I live in is different to yours, thus it changes. Maybe most of the world agrees on roughly 60+, but not all of the world does, so singular answers cannot be entirely valid. This is a dead-ended debate, lets just agree to disagree.

Well, I'm simply reproducing the information that was given to me upon my time in AS course Sociology, which is also approved by the national British curriculum. So I'm not so sure about that.

Of course, I'm not saying that anyone can be elderly, there is a lower limit. I do apologize if that seemed like what I was getting at, debating not long after waking up seems to have these effect lol

I guess we can agree on that.
