Building Models
« on: December 01, 2012, 06:02:04 PM »
Anyone here like to build models? More specifically, model kits?

I really like building model kits in my spare time. The building process is pretty fun by itself IMO, not to mention the sense of accomplishment you get after you attach the final piece and take a good look at the finished product. Pretty fuckin' great, man. Also it's my only hobby that gets me away from a computer screen, so there's that.

Most of my model-building time goes to gunpla (building gundam models) since the kits are available in almost every toy store, and they aren't too pricey. I've got a whole cupboard filled with them since I try to buy one kit at least every two months or so. I don't have anywhere to display them though, so they're stuck sleeping in their cardboard coffins for the time being. :<

Other kits I've built that aren't gundams include 2 battleships, a fighter jet, and a castle when I was younger. Lots of fiddly bits on those. >_>

Well anyway, feel free to post your model-building experiences or even pics if you have any.

If you're not that interested in model-building or just can't be bothered to build them, feel free to admire the pics of just my gundam models that I'll post at a different time! because I don't keep the other models with me since they can't be put back in their box when I'm finished with them

Here's two of my favorite models. (Coin's there for scale)

I used to when I was young, I used to build aeroplane and tank models. But then I got old enough to drink and screw, and it's taken up all my spare time since.

Oh man, Bionicles were the shit. I used to get my parents to buy me one, like, every week or something lol. I guess the more larger, intricate ones count, since the smaller ones are usually made of just a few pieces.

The ones I have are all in bits and pieces though, since I used to like building my own designs after I accumulated enough parts.

Also, added pics.

I used to do stuff like this.

I'd do some again if I could be bothered, but they are pretty expensive to buy all the paints and stuff.

I am terrible with IRL precision. That's why I like MineCraft so much if I do big builds, you can easily correct. Light, because you like building models, I think you could like the creative mode and the big builds.

Exactly! I'd really like to build things other than gundams but the non-gundam kits are damn expensive and I can't find them anywhere. Not to mention all the paint and shit like you said. :/

I've tried it before. I'd compare it more towards pixel art than model building though.

I've always wanted to get into building models, it always seemed like a ton of fun. But it's just way too expensive for me...

Necromancy yay~!
3 hours of building,1 hour of getting distracted and building weapons from another set,and 1 hour of trying to stick tiny stickers from a different set onto tiny places which are not meant for stickers

No thumbs were harmed in the making of this kit
There is a 90% chance the shiny sticker you see did not came from this kit itself

Looks nice. I don't follow LBX, but I like the shark theme. =P

The sticker on its waist isn't quite right though. Do you stick them on by hand?

Hands and toothpicks
I was never very good with stickers

The shark shoulders was the reason I bought this one honestly

Me neither. Shitty sticker placement is partly why I decided to learn how to paint

But yeah, toothpicks really help me when it comes to stickers, especially really small ones like the eyes on HG gundam kits, or ones that go in indentations. Tweezers also help quite a bit.

I kind of tried it and its a little scary when you end up trying to use legs as arms

I've thought of trying it but, considering I'll need to plan ahead if I want to do anything other than just swap limbs, it would be too much work for me at the moment.

I'd rather wait until more of the new line of HG kits come out and actually arrive in physical stores here.
