Title: Where do you live?
Post by: O:\msg on October 21, 2013, 07:12:01 PM
I like seeing new and interesting places so tell me where you live, what's there, and show me the sights. I'll start off.

I live in Kingston Upon Hull in Yorkshire, England. I've never ever heard it called its full name though. We drop the H too and pronouce it "Ull". In the second world war we were the second most bombed city after London and 95% of houses were destroyed or damaged. About half a million people live in and around Hull, we have villages all around us that are kinda part of the city now. We sit on two rivers and we're only a short drive from the North Sea.

We have lots to see here, tons of museums and sights.

We have the Humber Bridge, until recently it was the longest something bridge in the world.

The guy that abolished slavery in Britain - William Wilberforce was from Hull and his house is now a museum.(http://littletreasuresofbritain.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/Wilberforce-House-Museum-exterior-view.jpg)

We have a place called "The Deep". It's the worlds only submarinum apparently. It's full of huge fishtanks with sharks and all sorts in them.

Other museums include:
The Hull and East Riding museum which has Britains oldest surviving prehistoric logboat.
Ferens art gallery
Hull Maritime Museum
The Arctic Corsair. An old fishing boat from the days Hull was a thriving fishing port.
Spurn Lightship. A kind of lighthouse ship that used to guide ships to Hull.
Streetlife Museum
Hands on History Museum

We have three big shopping centres, this one is called Princes Quay Shopping Centre because it was built on an old dock of the same name.(http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/8d/Princes_Quay_Shopping_Centre%2C_Hull_-_geograph.org.uk_-_262397.jpg)

We have had a few big musicians/bands from Hull too, such as The Housemartins, Beautiful South, Fine Young Cannibals and Fatboy Slim.

We have Hull Fair every October, it's one of the largest travelling funfairs in Europe.

We are the home of the greatest football team in the world - Hull City!! :D
(http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/b/b6/KC_Stadium.JPG/597px-KC_Stadium.JPG)

We also have a ferry terminal with daily ferries to Belgium and Holland.

Most of the places people live are rough council estates but there's some nice places too. This is Queens Gardens and the BBC broadcast from a building there.

We also have a Marina, one day I will park my yacht there.

We have lots of parks too. East Park
(http://public.bay.livefilestore.com/y1p_6I_3X1i9Fb1s-VJAsmVbk8r30VV6LMVTJx4kz4I_04TAyOHVerd9gHi2BzzmPS2-6gPWZgsIRPebTxoREFdxg/DSCF5280.jpg?psid=1)

West Park.

Pearson Park. This one contains an animal house with snakes and lizards.

Pickering Park
(http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/35/Pickering_Park,_Hull_-_geograph.org.uk_-_308955.jpg)

Now I'll show you some of the Hull tourists don't see.
This is Bransholme Estate, supposedly one of the biggest housing estates in Europe, half the houses are boarded up.

The beautiful Orchard Park Estate. I used to live here when I first left my mothers. If you don't get beat up or burgled every 6 months you're doing well. The police found a girl murdered and stored in a cupboard in a flat there not so long ago.

And last but not least, my current area, Anlaby Road.

Yes, yes, it looks like shit. But all those houses are getting knocked down and new posh ones are getting built, some are already finished and once it's all done then my house price will double :D
(http://li.zoocdn.com/e028d3255f2616e6ffdfa8072074d487f1392410_645_430.jpg)

So that's Hull. Whatchyathink?

Wow, Hull looks like a place I'd love to live in. Not too busy/flocking and beautiful.

Wow, I wish São Luis was at least 2% as beautiful as Hull.

Yeah, people always comment when they visit on how green Hull is. We have trees lining a lot of our roads.

São Luis? What's that like? Where do you live analfister?

Well, I just showed you the pics I could find online. We also have a park and such. It's interesting here. Tell me when you visit so we can meet up and that I'm not stock up in my intern for school.

Where do you live analfister?
Doha, Qatar.

Much of Qatar's "beauty" is man made and the city not fully developed yet, so it ain't all that good. We have the city center and "Pearl Qatar", a set of artificially made islands which is the "hip" place where tourists roam. I suppose things are going to change vastly before the 2022 World Cup, but I'm not sure because of the scandals revolving around it.

I just googled it and it looks beautiful. That's somewhere I'd definitely like to visit one day.

Well, I am originally from Três Lagoas, a small city in Brazil which is currently in development, and doesn't really have anything really interesting. 100 000 inhabitants or so. I mean, apparently it has the biggest and the third biggest paper/pulp factory in the world, but that's meh. Right now, I live in Campo Grande, capital of the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. I'll see if I can get some pics. It's about 8x bigger than Três Lagoas.

Well, I guess it's not much. I don't know the city very well, since I just moved here in February and I don't go out much, but it's something. I did my best with what I could find on Google images.

Oooh. What film?

I live in Melbourne, AU.
I don't live that far from the CBD, so it's not a long train ride, but it's a nice place.

I forgot to mention we have an ice arena too, but I always fall over, I suck.

And on the outskirts we have an enormous chemical plant run by BP. It's so big you get a pushbike to get around once you're inside.

Your duck is awesome, I want one! We don't have a carnival here but we have gay pride where a bunch of people wear pink and block the streets all day.

I'm gonna copy you and show you our bus station. It's a combined bus/train station, it's also part of a shopping centre and has a cinema in it.

And copy you again and show you our hospital.

This is right next to my house, next to West Park and the football stadium too.

I live in Garland, a suburban city in Dallas, Texas, which is the 9th most populated city in the U.S, although it certainly does not seem like it because its population density is extremely low. One thing people do not know about "Dallas" is that it actually contains 8 different counties and 32 different cities. "Dallas" is actually the name for the entire Metropolitan (North-East) Texas.

We house one of the most beautiful skylines in America

We are known as an overall great sports city

Yeah I suppose. We're lucky, just to the North we have the North Yorkshire Moors.
(http://www.northyorkmoors.org.uk/visiting/what-to-see-and-do/attractions/attractions-pages/north-yorkshire-moors-railway/TG0027-North-Yorkshire-Moors-Railway_steam-train-travelling-under-Larpool-viaduct-nr-Ruswarp_courtesy-of-NYMR.jpg)

And we have a road that runs right up the coast past 3 or 4 seaside resort towns, this is one of them called Scarborough.
