To talk with friends, online and in the real world. Though, that happens very rarely these days

Living an ordinary life. Job, financial stability, family, doing your hobbies, etc etc.

I have one friend who's on my age who wants to retire to be happy. I am astounded by his logic. Says his willing to wait 45 years for it. I suggested I help him speed up the process.

Definately not money. I couldn't care less about money. I've never chased it.
I like to spend time with the mrs, cuddling on the sofa and watching a movie, maybe going for an Indian or chinese meal together, or seeing my daughter smile. It's little things that bring true happiness.

Well if you got some spare money that's a lot of weight off your shoulders though.

Without money you might be able to live a happy life, but without choices.

I think it's utter bullshit when a person says that they don't need money in order to gain happiness.

Really? So I guess you can just use happiness to provide you with security or a roof over your head, or serve as a blanket when you're sleeping in a drafty room in the middle of a cold night with no heat. And I'm pretty sure that happiness makes a great snack when you're skipping buying food in order to afford barely usable books to use in school. A school which, I guess if you ask nicely enough, will gladly accept tuition payments in the form of happy letters and smiles.

Yes, I mad.

Money does indeed help you live your daily life, it in fact helps you continue your life and brings you all the necessities that keep us going. However you are implying that simply living is enough to make someone happy? This is far from the truth, social interaction is much more important than possessions that money can acquire, social interaction is almost a necessity for us. It keeps us happy, unless you suffer from a disorder which changes this.
Whoever says that simply living is enough to make them happy, is either in denial or straight flat lying~

I'm the wrong person to talk to when it comes to social interactions.

And no I don't think that merely living is enough to make a person happy. But you can't very well make friends if you're huddled in a street corner for the night can you?

Lol, neither am I.
And true, thats a good point. However we do have to take into consideration people who don't pay anything such as people in the army and even homeless people can go to shelters for free food. Both options offer social interaction through gatherings, then again, you needn't even interact, simply being around others in the same situation is enough.

Who are you gonna talk to?
You're not allowed in a bar as a bum.
You don't have internet.
Everyone thinks you're after their money.
No father approves you as the man of his daughter.

Jeez, not needing money as a source of happiness doesn't necessarily mean they DON'T need money.

I meant you can only get happy of other things if you have money.

True, but having a great sum of money itself doesn't give happiness. Possibly the thought of financial stability is.

I guess I'm different to you lot then, money buys my food sure, but it doesn't bring me happiness.
If it ever came to it there is always housing benefit and other sources of income, nobody ever has to be homeless in the UK, those that are, choose to be, or spend their housing benefit on drugs so get kicked out. You will always survive, have a roof over your head and be comfortable.
I have lots of money and lots of nice things, none of them make me happy like the simple things in life, if you need material objects to be happy then you haven't lived.

I see those that think they need money to be happy have also posted in the sadness thread and have issues. My guess is you have low confidence/self esteem. If you got friends and a GF that loved you or whatever, and got to build up a nice life, then I'm sure you would rate those personal experiences higher than the need for material objects.

To be honest, I didn't think that pursuing any kind of relationship wouldn't be important on my age. I'm starting to have a bit of doubt. Not that I can just go and hit on any girl.

Sure you can, the only thing stopping you is yourself.
Life is about sharing it with somebody and enjoying experiences together, smiling, laughing, love. None of those things can be enjoyed alone. No amount of money would make me happy if I didn't have my family and friends to share it with, what good is a caribbean holiday alone? What good is a mansion if you live alone?

Getting rejected can be way more painful than not asking at all.
But the pain fades, when not asking it doesn't.

What makes me happy? Little things do, I can't really explain it, but they do.

Like when you're sitting outside with a bunch of mates, just relaxed, listening to music.. And the sun breaks through the clouds for a sec, stroking your cheek with some warmth, this makes me happy.
I know it sounds stupid, but I dunno.

I know what you mean.
I've just booked a surprise weekend away with the mrs and seeing her face when I tell her to get packed because we go away in an hour makes me happy already. Not because we're going away, but because I will have done something nice for her.
