Title: Traveling
Post by: TyranBrûlée on June 22, 2012, 08:57:26 AM
So who here likes to visit other states/countries/places/etc?
Where have y'all been?
What's the longest you've been away from your home area place city state thing?
Is money a big factor for you and travelling, or do you YOLO it?

As for myself, I love to travel. There is a matter of money, though. We're quite poor as it is and my parents solemn pay hundreds to simply have fun. Solemn meaning never.

I've been to Vietnam, though. That's the only out-of-country place I've been, and only because we were visiting family. I've never been there before I was 5. I haven't been there for years, but we stayed for about a month each time we visited.

I have also been to Las Vegas. Now, my family only goes of our extended family pools in money(unfairly. Richest families pay more). The only paying my parents do is at the casino... ._. And gas for the car, granted we take it. Anywho, thing is we don't pay that much to drive to Vegas.

Title: Re: Traveling
Post by: O:\msg on June 22, 2012, 09:53:24 AM
I go see what I want to then move on. I mostly visit war sites, I've travelled the entire length of the western front visiting every museum etc. Switzerland is just a shortcut to Italy, Spain I've only been for holidays, Poland I went to see Auschwitz. etc etc. Next month I'm off to Germany to see Dachau concentration camp, then Austria to see Hitlers birthplace, then I'm going to Czech republic to see the jew ghetto at Terezin and then im going to Prague to see where Heydrich was assassinated. September I'm going to Spain again for a holiday. Before that though I might pop to France/Belgium/Germany or Italy to see some customers, if I can be bothered.

I'm here just thinking about how much that would have helped me this year in History class.
Although I wouldn't go as uh.. in-depth as you would, I'd really love to visit some of those places someday to visit museums and stuff c:

Sure. I'm impressed your grandma braved the Paris traffic and survived, that deserves 12 cookies just for bravery.

But she makes the cookies...

Anywho, I don't think Paris traffic would be as bad as SoCal traffic, we're notorious for that.
Then again, I haven't been there.

It's the worst I've ever seen, my insurance company said my insurance is invalid if I drive through certain parts of Paris because I'm almost guaranteed to make a claim.
Oh while were discussing driving you wanna see the roads in Russia. You can drive for 8 hours without seeing a single person or town, its HUGE!

This would be the 4th time-ish I've stayed here, because my family gambles a lot and they give us free rooms.
However, we haven't been there in a while. We got an army discount though. The total of the two rooms came out to be around $1k. I think.

It was my first time there, it's probably my favourite place so far in Spain but it was a little too touristy for me. I prefer somewhere a little more quiet. A gang tried to mug me too, it ended up well for me and bad for them, but it's not something I'd want to experience again.

Bunch of frustrated Spanish kids there. Begging and scamming during the day, stealing during the night.

My sis will be leaving for Paris in 5 hours.
She'll get to serve some high horse food & drinks some big shots there. She's even staying at a 5-star hotel (That's awesome in Paris, I heard it was €500/night).
Man.. still 8 weeks for us.

I like Paris, apart from the traffic it's nice.

I just booked a holiday to Tenerife, anybody here been before? It's my first time to the Canary Islands so any advice on what to do/see/go is very welcome. I hope they do scuba diving, I fancy a go.

I have a holiday to Rome booked too, and I'm thinking of adding an extra week on and getting a ferry from Salerno to Tunisia. 5 star hotels in stunning locations are dirt cheap over there.

I'm only going as far as Ieper in Belgium, the In Flanders Fields Museum has reopened after renovation so I fancy popping over for a look. I think I booked the hotel for 1 night on the 25th.... but I can't remember now, maybe the 24th..... I'll have to check. I have 2 full days to fill so I might go to Beaumont Hamel across the French border, I couldn't find the famous 'sunken lane' last time I was there.

Well, the way the media portrays it and how it actually is are two very different things. Very few streets actually look like they do in the movies lol
and the people aren't very nice either, very unhelpful. It's a nice enough place so long as you don't get your hopes up.

A place in Tunisia called El Djem. This was only a bit smaller than the Colosseum in Rome.

As long as nobody else at work has the first week in October booked off I'll be booking a holiday to Egypt tomorrow after work.
I wanna see the pyramids
I wanna see the Sphinx
I wanna see the Egypt museum in Cairo
I wanna see the Nile
I wanna see the valley of the kings
I wanna see the Sahara
I want haunting by Cleopatras ghost

But most of all, I want to see some sunshine and the bar.

I went to Luxor a few years ago, stayed in Maritim Jolie Ville or something. Great hotel, lots of stuff to do, lots of sand, lots of stuff made out of sand. No pyramids >.> nice temples. The heat is lovely once you get used to it, but Valley of the Kings is something else entirely.
1 week wasn't enough though.

I booked it. We're going to Sharm el-Sheikh (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sharm_El_Sheik) for a week in October, the heat wont be quite as bad at that time of year.

Cold is good! :D
Up here we get, like, SO much snow it's ridiculous, but it's the heat I can't stand
80 degrees F is too much for me, I can't STAND anything above 85 and summers hit ~90+ and then I just start dying ;-; AC is a luxury up here, and we do not have it in this house.

I've been out to visit California three times, and the heat there was completely unbearable outside of the house. DIE, SUN

*Pokes head in*

I've been to the motherland Spain, Portugal (though very brief.), Mexico (specifically Cancun and Vallarta I think that's how it's spelled). That's basically all I've been to.

However, I heard that I might be going back to Cancun this year. I freaking hope so....it's hot af but there was so many tourist sites we didn't have enough time to get to(and I spent an entire week there). I'd love to finish that off ;_;

Might travel to Tyranland one day...which is basically that once city who's name I forget. It'll depend on whether or not I'll be less anal about gas money, that's for sure.

I've been busy since my last post in here.

In January we went away to Tenerife for the wifes 30th birthday, her parents and auntie and uncle came too.

Tomorrow we fly to Menorca for a week to get away from the rain.

In September we have two weeks in Toremollinos booked.

Next April I've booked another trip to Tenerife. My mother will be there for her 60th birthday and I'm going to turn up and surprise her. I've arranged with my step dad to get her in a bar and I'll just walk up from behind and ask if the seat next to her is taken or something :D
I haven't told the wife about it either, I'm gonna leave it until the day before we go then surprise her.
