Title: Any Interest in GFX Competitions?
Post by: Light on March 15, 2012, 05:14:03 PM
Start of Part 2: http://www.arpegi.be/index.php/topic,182.msg53572.html#msg53572

So yeah, I'm thinking of starting a contest and want your opinion. As you can see, I've taken some of the contest ideas from the other forum's GFX Competiton board because I think they'd be fun and most users would be able to enter, even without prior experience.

For clarification:

Standard SOTW: I give you a theme/render, you use it to create a sig with the render in it/based on the theme given.
Captcha Contest: I give you a screenshot of a Captcha, and you draw something that has to do with the two words in it, using Paint.
Intentionally Bad Drawings: I give you a theme, you draw something on Paint based on that theme. Preferably bad in a comical way.
Sprite Fusion: I give you two sprites, you make a new one using them, nothing more.

If no one votes then I'll assume you're not interested and leave the board as is. :)

I'd go for the standard SOTW, though I don't know if we have enough members with GFX experience yet.

That's why I added the other options, ones that (I assume) most users will be able to enter without any problems.

If a Captcha contest started I would take part, or a intentionally bad drawing contest. Though I don't have graphics experience so I wouldnt be able to take part in a SOTW.

I don't have the experience to draw in paint, seriously.

I'd join a Captcha contest, and might join an intentionally bad drawing contest.

You don't need the experience anyway. It doesn't have to be good (especially if it's Intentionally Bad Drawings). As long as the other users like it (and it doesn't break any rules, of course), then you're fine.

I'd go for all of them? xD
I mean even if you don't have any experience if you try it you will gain experience..
Thats what mostly matters about contests. you get better even the smallest bit

Ehh, looks like it's leaning towards SOTW now.

Anyway, I'll leave it open until the 31st, so anyone who's interested and hasn't voted please do so soon.

We could just randomly think about picking one of the options every week or 2 weeks.. Can't we Light?

Yeah, that's what I'm planning to do.

Good choice, because if we picked one of the options a lot of members would be "meh" about it because most of they wouldn't be able to enter.

Right, so I'm reopening the poll now that there are some more suggestions.

For clarification:

Caption Competition: I'll give you a page from a manga/comic with the speech bubbles whited out, and you'll have to insert your own dialogue into them. This can be done easily with Paint, though you're welcome to use any other program.
Paint Storyboard: I'll give you a short story, and you'll have to sum it up in a storyboard using Paint.
Intentionally Bad Drawings: I'll give you a theme, and you'll have to draw something on Paint based on that theme. Preferably, bad in a comical way.
Captcha Contest:  I'll give you an image of a Captcha (http://www.captcha.net/), and you'll have to draw something that has to do with the two words in it using Paint.

If I were to participate, is it okay if I used Paint.NET?
I don't have MSPaint. (Accidental removal, along with a couple of other MS programs including IE.)

Paint.NET should be fine.

It had zero votes on the previous poll, so I dropped it. You should've spoken up last week while we were still discussing the options.

I suggest a competition where any kind of drawing/creation is allowed and is to be judged by beauty, humor, etc...

Meme competition

Meme competition
That would work.

I suggested that before to Light along with the others that are now listed, it wasn't well received.

If we held a meme competition, the entrees wouldn't actually become memes unless you took the time to spread it around the internet. At best it would end up as an in-joke around the forum, imo.

Of course, if you're all eager to do it anyway, just vote "other" and clearly state what you want by posting here.

Just a notice: the poll will be closed on Friday, 15th of June.
Title: Re: Any Interest in GFX Competitions?

Voting is now locked.

Although the votes for "Caption Competition" and "Other" are tied, the votes for "Other" aren't all for one competition. NekoBot wants charcoal drawings, Mizari wants freestyle, and Austin wants meme competition.

That means June's graphics competition will be "Caption Competition". This poll will now be re-locked until it becomes necessary again.
