Title: Wings(1990) for Commodore Amiga
Post by: O:\msg on March 23, 2012, 08:34:27 AM
I would like to bring to your attention one of my favourite games of all time - Wings. It's massively underrated, I think not many people have played it, or at least not many of the internet gaming age group.
It features 3 different gameplay types, there is the 3D dogfighting:

The top down bombing:

And the isometric strafeing:

The game follows a story which is told by a journal entry before each mission:

It has RPG elements too, you have to put points into your pilots skills such as flying, shooting, mechanical aptitude.

It was only available on Amiga but there are some good Amiga emulators about, even one for android phones. Winuae is the best and can be found at www.winuae.net (http://www.winuae.net) There was a remake on GBA but it sucks badly and Wings 2 on SNES is just a japanese game called Blazing Skies that was rebranded for the US.
If anybody needs any help setting up the emulator look in the tutorial section at the Amiga emulation tutorial or just let me know and I'll be happy to help, it's a bit technical as there were many different Amiga variations.

There's over 200 missions so its huge, and its quite difficult too. It plays best with a joystick or joypad, I use my xbox360 pad in my pc.
