I'm still on my first playthrough so I'm just doing anything I can ATM. I always try to stealth it up but when it inevitably fails I just go all guns blazing and sword swinging! :D

Story-wise, it's far more fulfilling to not kill at all. I kind of like how the number of kills and alerts you do affects the next level.
