When is Trolling Ok?

<< < (2/6) > >>

Mr.PowPow:
I'm afraid that what is negative and what is positive is subject to personal views. It's not relative.
So there is no such thing as trolling being universally negative or positive, there will never be a worldwide consensus. So there is no real answer apart from bias ones. Even some parts of my previous answer contained bias remarks, when it came to my personal view on it.

However we can say that trolling is a part of our instinct, but sadly that doesn't offer much in terms of an answer.

NekoBot:
So then what other words can describe trolling?

--- Quote from: Mr.PowPow on January 07, 2013, 12:19:16 PM ---You'll always get a bias answer for this from the people who know a lot about it (by actually doing it), psychologically trolling is just asserting dominance over another person by forcing a reaction that you know is going to happen, or is your goal to make it happen. So in that sense its a natural human instinct, so in the evolutionary sense its completely fine and necessary. In which the same applies for bullying.

In the sense of society, its obviously going to be deemed deviant and wrong. Mostly by the victims of trolling. However since the line between trolling and bullying is rather thin, we're obviously going to have some sort of controversy here.

In my opinion, trolling is stupid and wrong, however I will admit that in the past I indulged in it simply to relieve stress. It's wrong but we do it anyway, because its instinctual. Though you'll find that those who are heavily socialized by society can restrain themselves, but these people tend to be -very- touchy and irrational, sometimes even illogical.

It's a necessary evil in this world, it won't go away. We just have to accept that it will always happen.

Cannot.. read.. wall..

If you can't stand getting trolled when it's all for laughs, you're just a wimp :/

NekoJonez:
To me, it's an other word then pulling a prank on somebody.

But here is the thing. Trolling has so many different meanings now, it's ridiculous.

There are forms of trolling that I don't mind, if the other party can take the joke, that's okay. But, there are trolls that actively seek ways to HURT and WOUND people. And with that form/kind of trolling, I don't accept with.

Like Mizari said, when it's for laughs. Okay. But sometimes it can go TO far. Or trying to get a community mad... That's no fun trolling anymore.

Well I'm glad my educated opinion was well recieved.
Regardless I was neither supporting it nor demonizing it. In short, biologically its natural and sociologically its deviant and wrong. But ultimately it can't be universally classed as negative or positive, subject to viewpoint. So there, no need to read the wall.
