Title: Contests?
Post by: NekoJonez on June 29, 2012, 04:06:39 PM
I got an idea... What if there is a sub-board with a game we can all play... Like a PC game or a game that you all can play ... (with not that legal ways.) ... And we have a sort of competition... Like, trying the get the highest score or trying to get ... the furthest in the game at a certain time limit?

Edit:

I was thinking of expanding it to also writing... Since RP'ing is so popular here. In other words... More sorts of competitions then only graphics. This way I hope to ... lure more and new members since ... who doesn't want to win a contest..? It's a good boost for self esteem ... and just maybe I can revive the graphics for Light with this... 2 flies in one hit no..? Opinions.

If the game is actually on the site and not just a link to another site, then yes. If not, then its no different from the community gaming nights and this should be directed there.

Agreed... But there was a lot of ... well "willing" for those nights no?

I don't understand what you mean by that.
If you mean people wanted the nights to happen, then yes. Its just nobody could agree on what everyone would play, plus not everyone had the games that were listed.

Yeah... I was multitasking so I wrongly expressed myself :P

Can't we all vote on a game to play and play it for 1 week or something and announce the winner on a friday? Mods could give a list of the next games and we all vote for the one we want next.

If you could pick emulated games from snes, megadrive etc than everybody can download and play with no hassle. Or free to play online maybe, i'm not fussed, but with my connection big downloads and online games are a big no.

Lemon amiga does a great competition here: http://www.lemonamiga.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=19

Also, we can maybe have a sort of "High Scores" list?

I think online games are better, I mean emulation takes time to set up with the downloading and extracting, some people are just plain lazy.
At least with online games, everything is set up and ready to go.

But with emulation the choice of games is almost endless. It takes what, 2 minutes maximum to download a 3mb rom and unzip it?

We could have stuff like fastest lap on mariokart, quickest fight on streetfighter 2, high scores on streets of rage, and allsorts of stuff going on. I think it would be cool and I'd definitely take part in something like that, I'm pretty awesome on mariokart ;)

That's why I said snes and megadrive. The nes has some awesome games too and alex kidd on master system is as good as any platformer ever made.

Why not mak a new board exclusively for contest and cometitions? that way you can ake subboards for the kinds of competitions that we offer?

I know emulation is easy, but like I said, some people are really lazy, especially when it involves downloading something and unzipping things. Extracting them and whatnot. I'm sure quite a few people here would forget about it as soon as they hear even a small amount of effort is required to join.

Agreed. Youll probably only have the same number of peope competing as they were in the graphics competition

Thats exactly my reasoning, many people voted for the caption competition but less people entered. People here can be rather lazy so its best that we stick to something simple and time effective, thats why online games are a better option.

Unless you can prove that a sufficient amount of people are willing to emulate.

There's a whole site dedicated to nes, snes and gb/c emulation!
We could use that?

I'm afraid that still doesn't cover the topic of peoples laziness, dood. Even if there is a guide, people will tend to be less interested due to the fact they have to put some effort in, dood.

I dont know but im just saying that most contest get a better result if its bundled with a prize of some sort. But its up to the contest maker to have one or not and to talk to admins to see if it could work befor tje contest is made no?

why not look at other sites that offer contest and see what they do for the winners?

Normally for other sites its a form of site currency, which is usually attributed to downloads or some other purchasable digital item. We have none, I think the best we could offer in our current state is the simple pleasure of winning, dood.

That's all I need. I'm pretty competitive and a good sportsman too, I don't mind getting my ass kicked by someone better. I like the competition of it all, it's exciting. I don't understand people that want a reward.
