Perhaps too much. :\
Nintendo's strength lies in handhelds. Evident by the Wii's failure (Which I more or less regret to buy, after seeing the full library of their games) but DS' success. PS3 and xBox specialize in consoles. But personally, being a PS fan, I chose the PS3. I found their library more nostalgic and interesting. But mostly nostalgic.

I say honestly, that ALL the current gen ((3)DS, Wii, PSVita, PS3, XBOX360) have rather MEH libraries.

That's because you're not trying to find what you want. Or rather, you're not accepting some games that easily. I don't really like FPS, but I like the Resistance and Bioshock series. Their story is far more captivating than that of COD's.
I don't like zombie games (I'm scared shitless of them, actually. :P ), but the Walking Dead on iOS seems to be quite compatible with me.
I miss the JRPG, Xenoblade was fine for me.
Action? I have Batman Arkham Asylum and Arkham City. Their depictions of the Dark Knight are as dark and gritty as those in the movies (I like them dark and gritty) but is still faithful to the comics.
Okami is a real gem. Finding Adventure games this creative can be hard to find.
I want a combination of action, stealth and drama? I have Metal Gear Solid 4 for that. The joke items there are VERY useful.

Games today are getting less challenging in various ways. I like more the games of the past... Those are better in my opinion.

It's more about open-world and interactivity with virtual objects these days. It's about blurring reality from fantasy, to try and captivate you and make yourself feel that you're actually inside the game. Inside the story.

While I agree to your statement, can you tell me those "various ways" the games are less challenging?

The endless supply on tutorials in the game itself... There is less.. "discover it on your own".
Or upgrades that last way & way too long.

Well, I wouldn't want to get myself lost in a confusing JRPG because there's no tutorials. If I want a complicated and difficult game, they should add puzzle to it. You know, make you think.

Upgrades in games are actually useful as the game progresses. If the weapon/item is obsolete, you might as well throw a brick at the console for making it needlessly difficult.

Look at their library. There's little third-party support. There is, but it's little. Most of the games are made by Nintendo. They may have sold a lot more units, but the library is still poor.

Not only that, but genres. And the game's intended goal.
