Title: RPG Maker VX Ace
Post by: senpai_FisT on July 27, 2012, 02:31:55 PM
This (very) simple to use software allows you to create your own RPG games! It is not freeware though and it costs a whooping 90$.
Here, see for yourselves..

Maybe we can make a Arpegi Roleplay game?

+1. The story and all is already there.

We obviously can't get the whole story and fit it in an rpg. o-o

Now that makes a lot more sense.
I just wonder how the game'll play out...We have to many characters to make each and every one of them playable...
How about using some of them as summons?

Well, some characters HAVE summons...

Then we could summon a character to summon their summon! Summonception!

=P

So, I guess we need to write the story again... To make it a bit more fitting.

This (http://www.rpgmakervxace.net/) is their user forum. I'm not sure if its official or unofficial but what I do know is that they actually help each other, unlike 90% of other game designing software.

To an extent, I can be of help to you who all are interested.

Be sure to get RPG Maker VX Ace only.

I always wanted to make a game using this, but guess what? Poor story designing. If we have Jonez and the other RP'ers we can totally make this thing work.

Yes! A spin-off! That's perfect!

And what about the battle system?
Please note that we'll probably be getting a script off of google so nothing overly complex. o-o
Title: Re: RPG Maker VX Ace
Post by: senpai_FisT on July 27, 2012, 04:55:48 PM
It has an inbuilt battle system similar to the NDS Digimon series(front view).
Front views are much easier to make.
Side view battle systems are much more complex and needs special sprites.

I use a modded front view battle system called 'Ace Battle Engine' by Yanfly.

Looks something like this, however bars and messages can be modified.

I strongly recommend that we use Y.E.A Engine for our game due to ease of use.

And don't mention that you pirated it to anyone in the RMVXA forums ;)

This (http://www.drunkenpaladin.com/) is a popular game made using RPG Maker.
Not a bad game really.

You could also make interactive novels too. It's not necessary that your game has combat.

If I actually succeed in being able to pull it off, sure.

Of course, with photoshop and a bit of parallaxing you can go from something like this:

Uhh... no... I think you're thinking of Light. I have no clue when it comes to artsy things. But I am good at making twists and unexpected plots.

Problem with parallax mapping is that the default chars would feel a bit out of place.
You'd need to do new sprite art and battlegrounds matching the lighting.

BTW this engine uses Ruby scripting language. Knowing it can be useful when making games with it.

I believe that one uses an earlier version, RM 2000. It has taller chars opposed to the now chibi chars.

Gonna cook something up with this.

By the way, using a mind mapper like Freeplane (http://sourceforge.net/projects/freeplane/) would make management easier.

Since RMVXA is on my list of things to learn, I'm making a short and simple one set in a high school. Hopefully I'll be done by next week, or at the very least, in the near future. I'll share it with you guys when or if I get it finished. =D

Bad news is the program isn't designed for multi user projects. Good news is we can always figure something out.

It is very well possible. There are many multi user projects in the history of RM.

Quote from: Tsukihime
Schedule things so that anything requirements that must be completed before the next phase begins are made so that while one person is working on some functionality that others need, others are still doing useful things, and then when the required functionality is complete, you would be able to begin working on that stuff.

Keep work logs and record what has been done in an easily accessible location in case one member is not available but others need to know (or want to know) what's been done.

You should probably think about how to break the project down into multiple phases and then iteratively plan out each phase and complete them as you go. As long as everyone is being productive and not 7 people waiting around for one guy to finish something, you shouldn't run into too many difficulties.

But...that seems kind of tedious.

Just maintain good communication, have everyone know what they're doing, and address issues early rather than wait until it's too late. Maybe you wanted a particular battle system, with all custom resources, but the person in charge of scripts can't do it.

Of course, the point of running into issues is to identify them and learn from it.
At least you're not losing millions of $$$ if your project plan doesn't work out too well.

BILLY MAYS HERE.

So, this (http://www.rpgmakervxace.net/user/4013-titanhex/) guy is putting together a project. It's not an RM game, but a forum RPG where you roleplay as a student who joins Ace Academy to learn RPG Maker. You'll be taught and tested on how to use the software by "teachers" and they grade you on how well you do in the exams. If that didn't make it clear enough, you'll be ACTUALLY taught how to use the software via roleplay and yes, there's report cards and shit. If you've ever wanted to learn RM but dropped it due to lack of momentum, this is really for you.

You need to create an account on this (http://www.rpgmakervxace.net/) forum, where it's hosted.

You can read more and discuss things with it's creator, Titanhex, here (http://www.rpgmakervxace.net/topic/20388-rmvx-ace-academy-practice-through-roleplay/).

Note: They're using RPG Maker VX Ace as the standard to teach.

By the way...
