Title: Reading
Post by: shredc0re on March 12, 2012, 06:55:59 PM
Since I haven't really seen any topic about this yet, except for manga/anime, I decided to start the talk about it! (This is not about manga/anime!)

Honestly, I love to read books. The more pages they have, the better.
I own several series of books, including Harry Potter, The Darkest Trilogy, Twilight series (fuck off, they're pretty good), The Lord Of The Ring series, Eragon series, ...

Do any of you guys like to read? Tell me!

Twilight series
Hehe

I love the Harry Potter books, even though they make the movie about them look kinda sucky suck.

Twilight isn't that bad, but not that good either. I don't love it ~

Oh my, I have read so much: LoR series, Harry Potter  series , Eragon  series , City of Ember  series , Foo  series , Inkheart  series , etc

i own the entire series of twilight although i havent touched them since a month after i bought them
i also own the hunger games series, which was amazing.
other than that, i prefer to read individual books since its hard to locate parts of a series... and then i have to pay for them if i want to keep it
i do go to the library very often though, and ive found several gems because of that
i cannot recall how many books ive read to date because ive been drawn into reading ever since i was young, and i usually love all the books i finish(which is a lot)

It's very teen-oriented but pretty cool. Since the movie is coming out, I suggest you watch that first so you no get disappointed by lack of details.
Left hand of god, hoffman? it reminded me of Zero no Tsukaima so I bought it but I don't know where it is..

I read the classics, you know, like "The little engine that could" by Watty Piper. Touching story.
Then there is also "The very hungry caterpillar" because lets face it, it speaks to me and to you as individuals and has a very strong message to send out.

It's called a childrens book but it can be enjoyed by adults, there's lots of killing, it's one of the best books I ever read. Definately worth picking up if you ever see it anywhere.

I find myself reading most, if not all, of Neil Gaiman's works. Anyone who writes a horrific side of Santa's job (http://mirathon.blogspot.com/2006/12/neil-gaimans-nicholas-was.html) or eating babies (http://petergabriel.com/social/forum/3/peter-gabriel/topic/314119/babycakes/?filter_page=1&filter_sort_field=creation_time&filter_sort_field_type=num&filter_sort_direction=asc) deserves some sort of mention, right?

There's always some sort of mysticism and obscurity that makes his works haunting and beautiful at the same time. Plus, he's a pretty flexible writer; he can write comedy stories (e.g. Anansi Boys) as much as horror (e.g. Most of the novels he wrote).

Title: Re: Reading

That's because The Road has prose poem elements. It's impossible to translate that to a visual medium without sacrificing the emotional content it has.

I have to read a collection of Filipino prose poem elements for a book report. Never mind that it has a lot of complicated words not really used often, but it's a prose poem AND a post-modern work. I'm crying.

Started off with The Immortals of Meluha (http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/7913305-the-immortals-of-meluha), which proved to be rather boring right from Chapter 1. So I stopped reading that one and picked Critical (http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/308275.Critical) up, which felt much better.

527 pages gon b a bitch tho~

I finished Good Omens last night. It. Was. Brilliant.

And I bought Reaper Man (by Terry Pratchett. He did half the work in Good Omens, so yeah. Most of the comedic parts were from him.) out of impulse.

Also, I'm reading Stardust (by Neil Gaiman. Also worked on Good Omens. All things involving disgustingly graphic things and maggots came from him.) for the time being.

Also bought Feast of Crows, though I haven't read the other Ice and Fire books. Book four is actually rare in bookstores right now, so I'm considering this some sort of investment on the series.

story/poem = Epic Poem

OT: I just started reading False Memory by Dean Koontz, it started off pretty dryly but I can feel it starting to pick up. Sherlock Holmes: The Complete Novel and Stories Volume I

I'm probably not gonna read this until I finish every reading material I need for my Literature class. :\

I'm currently reading Millennium Falcon. It's tells you the history of the Falcon before Han Solo got it, it's a really interesting book.

I'm reading 1984 for an English assignment
Also, All Quiet on the Western Front was given as an optional assignment, and it's much harder imo, but I'm gonna read it just for my enjoyment. If I have time/feel like I can do the optional assignment, then I'll do that too c:

I'm on book 7 of the fate of the jedi series. It's not great but I'm not quitting after all these books, I have to finish it now.

I'm reading a very big book about teachers telling stories how the education in Belgium evolved from shitty to extreme diarrhea explosions.

(Note: might have added my own opinion there... A lil' bit)

Picked up the entire A Song of Ice and Fire series

I'm currently about 300 pages into A Game of Thrones

Also, I picked up Assassin's Creed: Forsaken, Star Wars Darth Bane trilogy, and Star Wars Darth Plageuis.

Read AC: Forsaken so far. Not the best written book, but it tells the story of AC3 and the backstory on Haytham Kenway with an interesting perspective. Id recommend it to any AC fan, but it's not something to pick up unless you like the series

Got Splinter Cell: Operation Barracuda, American Sniper, The Da Vinci Code and Turning Points (autobiography of A.P.J Abdul Kalam, one of India's former presidents.)

Started reading Splinter Cell.

If a book is more then 150 pages, I loose my courage.

It does seen kinda scary to read long books but honestly, if you read the book seriously, most books could be finished in less than 2 days time. If one can invest 100 hrs into a video game, ~48 into a book should be no problem.

Of course, it's all about one's interests

I tend to lose track of the pages around page 80. If I find myself around page 260 sometime later, it wouldn't surprise me.

Splinter Cell: Operation Barracuda :- Not that great but fans of the game might like it. One thing I didn't like was how much Sam got caught. He's supposed to be a ghost.

The Kite Runner - Top class. I downloaded the movie last night for my friend who doesn't read.
