Word of the admin

Arpegi started out as a forum to rebel against other forums their bad admin styles. The first version of Arpegi had updates left and right, but we couldn't do a lot since Mizari & I didn't had access to the core files.

After a year, Mizari and I moved Arpegi to our current host. I decided to start the v2.0 line of Arpegi. In this version we got a lot of updates. The big update was the portal.

Then v3.0 came around at the start of this year. We got our battle system and big changes to our forum. The final updates, v3.11 were actually ALL meant for Arpegi 4.0. The fixes to some BBC codes, the bug fixes and mod updates were all meant for the upcoming version of Arpegi.

Arpegi v4.0 will include a big change and a reset of our battle system. Not only that, but you guys won't see big changes at the user-side of Arpegi after the big update. Since the 4.0 line is mostly a big code clean-up update. I'm going to delete code that we don't need or use. In the mean time, you guys will see more updates to everything. Don't worry, these updates will also be for reviving the forum a bit!

Anyways, enough talking. I hope you guys are looking forward to the big update. It will happen this weekend. And this topic will be the new change log.

• Fixed a coding issue in a display mod making the portal load slower.

• YouTube videos are now displayed using the iframe tag for HTML5 compatibility.
• http://www.youtube-nocookie.com is now a valid URL to specify in the bbcode.
• Added yt_user bbcode to create a playlist of YouTube videos by a specific user.

• Fixed some minor glitches that slowed the site down when editing your profile.

• Updated the mod that lets you save your text when your browser crashes or when you click on back by accident. 15/6 update: deleted the mod since it was causing major issues for Chrome v50 and up users.

Arpegi 4.2 - Maintance Updates

While I know full well that this forum is "dead" and is being kept up for archival purpouses, I stil want to tell you all the security fixes and such I did.

• SMF is now v2.0.17
• Arpegi now uses the latest PHP version. (PHP v7+)
• The new accounts require activation by admin again, to combat the smarter spambots.
• NEW: You can now see when somebody has quoted your post.

• Fixed a bug with delayed loading of PM's.
• Fixed a deprecated PHP bug while editing a post.
• Fixed an error dump on the top of the screen while in the admin center.
• Fixed a bug where some messages appeared bigger than they should.
• Fixed a bug where the highlight tags failed to load.
• Fixed a glitch with the lazy admin menu loading wrongly.
• Fixed the member notepad plugin reporting the wrong version.
• Fixed an issue where an empty board failed to load.
• Fixed some typo's in the user profile dropdown.

• Major fixes to run some games when Flash dies.

Arpegi 5.0 - PHP recovery

• Fixed the white screen of death. For this, I had to disable all other themes, due to them not working on PHP 8.0+

• Upgraded various mods to run on PHP8.0
• Removed some admin shortcuts since they are broken on PHP8.0+ and the only fix would be upgrading to SMF 2.1 (which is currently not in the pipeline)
• Various small loading improvements the FCP.

• Made the moderation menu "lazier". (More quick links)

• Made the YouTube integration a LOT better. More info: https://custom.simplemachines.org/index.php?mod=3982

• A lot more animations are present now.
• Them spitting out a ton of PHP8 errors is a time of the past.
• They can be ignored or disabled by the user easier in their settings.

This might look like a very small and minor update, but believe you me... This update took me weeks to figure out the cause of that white screen of death.
Various members emailed me, poked me on Steam... Thank you for that. 

But PHP 8.0+ broke all other themes beyond repair.  I could adjust it for PHP8.0+, but then I might loose all features like the arcade/notes system/additional social media profiles etc.

So, I took the decision to rip out all other themes and reset everybody to the default theme to get it working again. Feel free to shout at me because of that, but I rather have our place be up & running for nostalgia reasons without the other themes compared to it being gone and only a fleeting memory. Behind the scenes, when I have the time, I'm also doing security updates and others to make sure this is GDPR proof AND we don't get hacked.

Arpegi 5.0.1 - PHP recovery

Patch date: 2/6/2024

• The favicon could be broken in some moments.
• The logo was broken when the cache was cleared.
• The SSL certificate could sometimes break due to mixed content.
• Fixed some maintenance tasks being unable to complete and spam a ton of PHP errors to console.

• Our custom Antipegian could be broken. But not anymore.
