A Hard Game
« on: March 09, 2014, 07:53:12 AM »
Name the hardest games you know. Demons Souls or Dark Souls, right? WRONG

Project Diva series is harder than either of those. Why? Hatsune Miku no Gekishou, also known as The Intense Singing of Hatsune Miku. Here's a video of the song, from Hatsune Miku: Project Diva Dreamy Theater 2nd. On the hardest difficulty.

Now that looks pretty damn hard, don't it? Don't it! Well...it's not! Prepare for the same song. On the hardest difficulty. On Project Diva Arcade. With all of the hold note trails turned off, so you don't know when a hold note is supposed to end unless you memorize the entire song better than the inside of your eyelids. And do note that halfway through the video, it'll just show the fast parts slowed down so normal people can keep track of the notes. Also note that it probably will NOT help.

Project Diva is serious business. Project Diva is possibly HARDER than Dark Souls.

Imagine that.

To be fair, what makes Dark Souls hard and what makes Project Diva's more difficult songs hard are very different.

But then again you never have to press buttons that fast in rapid succession in Dark Souls.

That's true, but again, what makes Dark Souls hard isn't the same as Project Diva.

Rhythm games like Project Diva have fixed gameplay. The notes will appear at exactly the same time and in exactly the same way, every time. They get harder by adding notes and increasing the speed, up to a point where you get almost-impossible songs like the one you linked.

With Dark Souls, you get a lot more variables in the gameplay, most of which usually work against you in some way or another. Health, stamina, enemy attack patterns, pitfalls, status ailments, overwhelming enemy numbers, exploring the wrong areas... and etc. There are a lot more ways it can go wrong for the player.

It's true you won't need as precise timing as hitting the notes in that song, but you'd have to pay attention to a lot more than just how notes appear on the screen.

You gotta be smart, skilled and have a memorize past mistakes for Dark Souls while you only have to be fast for games like Project Diva, Audiosurf and other games in that branch.

I disagree, any game that requires precision and timing on a set course, in an environment that never changes can be learned through failed repetition that translates to muscle memory, in Dark Souls, it is legitimate hard and is determined by your skill. In Dark Souls, if you fuck up, its, 9 times out of 10, your fault, with very few exceptions. With games that follow that kind of difficulty seen in the videos you've shown are just a test of how well you can learn a pattern over time. It is true that it is not easy, but at least in games such as Dark Souls, the environment changes based on what you do, your build, and how the AI works to kill you.

In any case, you can't truly compare these two games, they are of complete different genres and so have a much different skill set needed to play. Sure, you aren't pressing buttons as fast, but you still need a strategy, be observant, have quick reactions, have the ability to make decisions based off of split second observations all coming together in the same environment. Argue as much as you want, but you can only truly compare difficulty to something of equal to, or near similar value.

Additionally, with that being said, I respect your opinion Inu, but, I cannot see this argument valid as it stands.

That's basically what "fast" means

Yeah, it's kind of like, "Oh, you missed 80% of the Augments? lol tough shit bro start over or grind to lvl90"

I generally don't like having to use a guide just to finish the game. At no point does the original (or the PSP remake) require you to use a guide.

Exactly. I beat the original with not many issues but when I played the DS version, my ass has never been more consistently whooped
