Think about this. It's basically a retarded way for protecting us from importing controversial topics for certain regions.

Plus, they can then license games easier. Since they need to pay for a certain region instead of the whole world. Don't want to license a game in the USA, well then don't.

And it's against pirates too.

^^THIS. I love all games, and it also doesn't hurt to try this gen's games. There ARE great games out there going in a good direction. Just restricting yourself to a certain generation hurts gaming experience imo.
