What were your teacher's arguments? I don't see how free will and sympathy could reduce crime at all.

She showed us some videos of family members of a victim "forgiving" the offender for their crime (the offender broke down into tears), thus explaining how forgiveness can change a persons view more so than anger or resentment. Apparently this potentially could stop re-offending and she argued that stopping re-offending is the way forward to stopping new crimes. She went on to say this is possible as crime could be something that is learned in society rather than instinctual.

I guess what she was getting at is that stopping the people of this generation from committing crimes will make the new generation less likely to carry on where the old generation left off.

No, you're thinking about it from a light perspective, we mean freedom taken away in the strongest sense. Microchips (tracking devices) implanted in people, complete surveillance of peoples activities (both online and offline), stronger punishments for those who stray away from these new rules. That wouldn't increase crime simply because there wouldn't be any place to hide and no way to avoid it, it would be a world of fear and oppression but it would certainly reduce crime, maybe petty crime such as littering would still be around, but murder and theft would be reduced.

It's not an attractive solution, but we never said this would happen or would want this to happen. Just that it would be a solution.
Never a solution. My school was VERY strict. They make you stand out in the sun just for not wearing your tie and stuff like that. So one day, my mother was called to school for "misbehavior" on my behalf(All I ever did was block a slap to my face from a teacher.); and things got tense. She stood there explaining what I did, to my mother. At that moment, I felt a strong surge through my mind and body.
"They act like saints, when they're in fact, tyrants. The believe they are Jesus Christ where in fact they're the Romans. I only want freedom, I do not want to be superior, I only want to be equal as they are. I want them to teach, not patronise."
We were standing by the door, my mother right outside, and my teacher facing her, her back facing me. This was the moment. I grabbed her by the shoulder and pulled her back. As she turned around, I gave her the mightiest whack of my life, right in the middle of her face. My mother gasped, and so did the rest of the class. And my teacher lied there, squealing like the pig she was. I knew what would happen. I would be sent off of school, and no other school would ever want a "teacher puncher". I realized my education was essentially, over. But I did not care, for freedom, felt sweeter than ever before.

You must be wondering what that had to do with anything. The thing is that all an oppressed man needs is that spark, that moment of realization, and he will be more than just willing to give everything in the name of freedom.

Interesting, however I don't think the severity of the world I was painting was the same as what you experience, though I understand your point. However you were aware that things could be different and thus your strived for it, if you were born into a "world" of oppression and fear, and not just a country, then how could you know any different, you'd just accept it. Take away a mans concept of freedom along with the physical implications and there is no way around it.

The sudden transition from grey to white nearly blinded me but other than that I don't really see what's so bad about it.

In other news, I wonder what the chances are that Fate/Extra CCC will get an English release. Not likely, I'm guessing ;_;

The day WoW becomes outdated isn't very far away anymore. Don't worry.

Lol trust me, that would never work in todays society. Criminals lack compassion, I have one of those types of brains serial killers and big businessmen have, I have no conscience or guilt. I can hurt somebody and walk away without even thinking about it, if people are soft enough to let me get away with it even better. It wouldn't make me change because that's the way my brain is. We watched a documentary on serial killers once that explained how their brain differs from "normal" people.

For her idea to be succesful you would have to first eradicate the problems in society that make people do things in the first place, those urges and thoughts are never going to just stop on their own. If somebody is hungry enough they will steal, if somebody is addicted to drugs they will do whatever to get a fix. Letting those people off would change nothing.

I'm with you pow, dna every baby at birth, fingerprint every child, get cctv on every corner and make them do hard labour instead of cushy cells with TV and playstation. That will stop them reoffending more than anything.

From what I know, it's some type of simulator where you raise a girl to become the top idol in japan.
I also think it has rhythm games.
