Well, what's your favorite genre and why? And what does that genre have that others don't have?
Mine is adventure games. Man, do I love them. I think they present the story on the most unique way you can without having to worry about level grinding or anything.

RPG's. I love building my character up and playing a good story. Second favourite is FPS's, I like some quick mindless fun when I don't have time to play for hours.

Too many to pick just one. I'll list my favourite genres and some of my favourites in that genre.
FPS: I like the FPS genre very much. I lean more towards twitch shooters with some amount of thinking. Lack of visual quality and story does not bother me much when playing FPS games.
Favourite games: Quake III, Counter Strike, UT2k4, Doom, TF2
RPG: I lean more towads WRPGs than JRPGs but they both have very good games. Visual quality is somewhat important. Linear RPGs require more importance placed at storyline and non linear RPGs require more importance placed at depth and ambience.
Favourite games: TES, FFVI, Baldur's Gate II (Never played 1, I think I really should.)
Action-Adventure/RPG: More or less RPGs but with an emphasis on action. Visuals and story are somewhat important.
Favourite games: Witcher 1&2, DmC 3 &4, LoZ(Only played 4 of those), Prince of Persia (series), Mass Effect
Point & Click Adventures: I'm fairly new to this genre, having played Leisure Suit Larry Reloaded and now CSI: Dark Motives. Somewhat picky about visuals and story when it comes to this genre since there isn't much gameplay involved.
Favourite games: Too early to call favourites since I've literally only played just two. Looking to play Syberia 1 & 2.
RTS: A genre that I love, but unfortunately, one I suck at. I lack the long term planning required to be good at these games.
Favourite games: Age of Mythology, Warcraft III, Empire Earth
Racing: Depends on the game. I like racing games based on more technical driving than street/arcade racing.
Favourite games: GRID, Colin McRae Rally 2.0, Split Second (An arcade racer, but probably the only arcade racer I loved)

RPG. Emphasis on roleplaying. There's this weird sense of accomplishment of creating your own Commander Shepard, Hawke or Revan whether it be an asshole, a sarcastic deadpan snarker or a goody-two-shoes.
-
Rpg
What it has:emphasis on story, immersion, freedom in limitations.
-
RPG: I like RPG's that don't require hours of grinding.
Platformer: Depends. I like platformers that don't rely on instant death traps too much, and also don't have crippled controls.
-
stealth games: just being able to be sneaky is what I love the most. For the most stealth games you also have to choose your targets carefully. Because if you don't some might fuck you over.
AC series for the most, dishonored
Racing: I love cars sinds I was 5 years old so yeah. Impossible to miss in my fav genre/game types. Why I like it is mainly because you can drive as fast as you want. Nobody is gonna stop ya. Or they will at least try but they first have to catch you.
Need for Speed underground 2, shift, split second, colin McRae rally, ...

I love Action RPGs with a lot of adventuring, character development, and story
Things like Kingdom Hearts, Skyrim, Fallout, Borderlands... ETC.
Also love games that aren't necessarily RPGs but have lots of Adventuring and Story such as Uncharted, Last of Us, and Assassins Creed, etc.
I'll play all sorts of games though. I don't limit myself to a certain genre
