Title: Contest board - Organization.
Post by: NekoJonez on July 02, 2012, 03:03:11 PM
Alright. It's pretty clear to me that it's a good idea to have a contest board. But, what contests are we going to have...? Are we going to use the awards plug in for this...? How and who is helping in creating these awards?

Here we are going to discuss how we are going to organize the contests. How there will be judged and things like that.

For example... I am in favor of a writers contest for poems or stories. Like, getting three words and making a story out of them. The one who most votes in terms of creativity and sticking to the theme wins.

I'm up for making some of the awards if you want.

As for the contests, how about gaming tournaments? Or a lyric replacement contest? Or maybe a photography contest?

Just throwing ideas around.

For the people who wonder... I am thinking for the award size to be 99 x 55px

So, Light can maybe make some... Like with a controller on them for game contests?

Awards are most likely the best way to go, its the most we can offer people to be honest. But obviously the awards shouldn't all the same each time, even if its gaming competition like the one before it, dood.

As for actually contests, gaming contests would be a good idea. However we'd need to make it simple and not too complicated, we discussed emulators and I was initially against it.....however it could work so long as people are indeed willing to do it....and mean it. Not just say that they will and end up losing interest, dood.

Not going to happen. Flash games will make our site load even slower.

We could always play games that are offsite, post our high score and just do it like that. But we either need an image that displays the high score or a screenshot to verify.

I have hearing difficulties, I mishear all lyrics :(

I'm rubbish at writing too, and poems you have no chance of me being involved, I have the creativity of a shovel. An old used shovel, found rusted in an old persons shed.

Maybe we can have a beauty contest  ;D

This is how the other site I linked you too does it, it works well.

Feel free to ask members with slow internet.
Also, it's for contest... why do they need to be honest ON this site? That means we have to make this forum actually for discussing about those flash games and lets things like RP's and such... go in the shadow.

To be honest, the RP community here isn't that big, its the same individuals each and every time. So the RP side is pretty much in the shadow anyway.

If an official competition board was presented youd need more then 2 competitions. I feel like five would be a good number.

Why 5? With 5 you can create a focus in seperate defined areas.

Do ya get what Ima saying?
Title: Re: Contest board - Organization.

Limiting ain't a good idea. If we can also get new members with this... Yeah... Only 2 competitions is not so much.

So we cant limit to 5 then because its a bad idea?

Well, I see it like this.. We start with 2... if that proves successful we let it grow and grow.. But not sayin.. 5 is the absolute max.

I see... so for now we have the graphics competition and the creative writing competetion right?

and f those are successful you move on to a game competion and some other competition. and then your just gonna let it grow like that?

how long would you be willing to wait for t to be successful and what would you consider a success?

I think a gaming competition would be better done first, I mean, the graphics competition was a flop (though Light did a good job, its just people were being lazy) and the creative writing contest actually requires lots of effort. Gaming is easy and thus its better to start off easy.

So, I think it would be prudent to give the competitions their own section. So people don't need to look very hard to find out where the competitions are being held, nobody can say "Well I didn't know when or where to go" when there is a big section called "Competition Section".

In that case, why not have the competitions have its own section? I mean, I board would be just as effective, but a section is just easier to notice.

So then if you plan to do that are you going to annex the current competition childboard and put it into the new section? And what of Light? If you do that will he still mode this section?

Exactly, thats what I was getting at. But Jonez referred to Random Bar as a section and it kinda confused me a bit.

Sections are: Chat, Creative, Gaming. Ect.

Boards are: Random Bar, Debates, Hobbies ect.

Childboards are: Rants, Sport, MemberSpotlight Redux ect.

Well, I only suggested that there be another section called Competitions so it could be laid out like this

Section: Forum Competitions

Boards: Graphics
             Gaming
             Writing ...ect

Childboards: Rules and standards ect.

Indeed, Light can mod Graphics competitions, Msg or myself can do the gaming, Writing could be done by either Jonez or Toffee.
And you can include your Fun friday five in the section too, infact this could be a place for all the new accepted competitions to be held.

The awards that I showed on the forum page will suffice for the basis of the most basic awards, the more complicated awards should be discussed within the forum staff, no?

Anyhoo, when is this competition board going to be put into effect?
