I'd like to add that something isn't racist unless it has "intent to offend". I've had many discussions about this with noobs on facebook and I think you are all smart enough to know the difference, but just to clarify. =3
So its only worth reporting if you "know" that the person has the intent to offend someone, you can't be accidently racist.
That makes little sense, in order for something to be racist it needs to be cast on someone, or a group.I'd like to add that something isn't racist unless it has "intent to offend". I didn't mean to say that. Being racist is allowed here. Just don't cast it on someone.
This thread shouldn't even be in the debate section because its not debatable unless you for some reason choose not to care about the definition of wordsThat's not for you to say. Definitions are made by people too. The person who made that definition is obviously very ignorant
Take it up with oxford then, but until then I'm still correct. Thats how racism is to be determined and if you don't like it I'm afraid that simply how it is and you'll have to accept it. Racism is a word used universally with the same meaning everywhere, you can't have your own opinion on what it is. Its a solid definition. This thread shouldn't even be in the debate section because its not debatable unless you for some reason choose not to care about the definition of wordsThat's not for you to say. I mean just because you think that a word should mean something else doesn't mean that you're right, I mean if I wanted juice to apply to all liquids and I firmly believed that, (for no reason whatsoever) that doesn't mean I'm right now does it? Because there is a definition of the word juice that says otherwise.
It's not like the justice system all over the world thinks like how it's in the dictionary. If it's solid, why would they twist it?No no no, IT DOES.
btw.. Talking should be fun. Keep it fun.
Seriously, the only justice systems that do not go by the rules of intent, are the justice systems that are located in countries where racism is very common and barely a crime, or not worth it to prosecute over. Everywhere else racism is defined by intent. Trust me.Agree 100%
The only people that twist the definition of racism are the public, know why? because tensions have rose so high between the white ethnicity and all of the rest, that we simply don't know what is right and what is wrong. We are too afraid of offending the other ethnicity so we immediately jump to conclusions and defend them even when there is nothing to defend them against.
I will tell you that there is quite a large group of people that don't know how to define racism, so they make up their own little definitions out of necessity, which is why you are arguing against me today, because until yesterday you didn't know the definition and before that you had made up your own definition out of necessity.
There is nothing else to debate, this is dead ended.
I totally agree with pow. Does real racism really still exist anyway? Obviously there will always be a few nutjobs, but I mean in general. I don't know anybody that's really racist, sure we tell jokes and stuff but nobody is actually racist, we tell fat jokes and women jokes but that doesn't mean we hate women and fatties. I even get black jokes sent from my black friend, a joke is a joke.
wait a second. let me see if i got this right. you are saying that someone is racist only when they mean to be racist? that just doesnt make sense. All of that is irrelevant if you go up the page and look at the complete definition. Are you not simply making up your own?
and i also believe everyone is a little racist at some point. stereotypes are a form of racism and discrimination.
let me give you one example to enlighten you people how we all can be racist at some point. lets say you are driving on a neighborhood in your city which happens to be only latinos or black people neighborhood. dont you lock your doors? start paying more attention? or when walking on the sidewalk a little late, no one else around and suddenly you see a black person coming towards you, dont you cross to the other sidewalk or just pay more attention on to what that person is going to do? these two are involuntary or unconscious ways of racism that exist even if someone is not racist and can be caused by stereotypes. at some point we can all be racist.
or better yet, only white people town and suddenly a non white person moves to town. and he starts receiving attention from everyone in the neighborhood. i dont mean negative attention, but special, people treating that person differently from the others. this can also be a type of racism
ok, i get it. so racism never existed in european countries when slave trading with black people was legal right? in that time people believed black people were animals. so they were basically being treated as working animals. so im guessing black people now a days should not worry because that was not intentional. people really believed black people were soulless animalswait a second. let me see if i got this right. you are saying that someone is racist only when they mean to be racist? that just doesnt make sense. All of that is irrelevant if you go up the page and look at the complete definition. It is impossible to be accidently racist, even if its "unconscious racism", its not racism....because its not intentional.
locking your doors because you are afraid of someone "black" passing by isn't racism? Dude thats fear. You are not intending to offend that person in any way, you are trying to protect yourself.
Man this is getting so tiresome.....

They believed they were inferior and simply things to be used, because they were black and they had every intention to hurt them. However some simply found it as the norm and did it unconsciously (which wasn't racism because the people that WERE being racist, made it so common that it became not racist to others)
Blatant Racism: Outright racists that, without apology or confusion, tell people of color, that because of their color, they “don’t appeal to them.”
Covert Racism: When racists are being racist but just not saying it. For instance, upon seeing that a potential tenant is Indian, rather than saying it directly, a landlord will pull the apartment “off the market” without providing an explanation.
Unintentional Racism: “With the best of intentions, the best of educations, and the greatest generosity of heart, whites, operating on the misinformation fed to them from day one, will behave in ways that are racist, will perpetuate racism by being ‘nice’ the way we’re taught to be nice.”
Self-Righteous Racism: “The ‘good white’ racist attempts to shame Blacks into being blacker, scorns Japanese-Americans who don’t speak Japanese, and knows more about the Chicano/a community than the folks who make up the community.”
Internalized Racism: Stereotypes and attitudes of the white hegemonic system are internalized by members of oppressed groups and peoples and taken for truth or inform the ways they think about themselves and others from similar backgrounds or cultures.
Well I guess I'll accept my defeat then. I apologize for any conflict I have caused. What defeat? I think you're right.
well. not all definitions are finalI don't think that's racist, pointing out somebody has ginger hair(ie different) doesn't matter. Being different doesn't matter. It only matters when its intended to offend or something.
here i have a little definition of racism from the Royal Spanish AcademyExacerbación del sentido racial de un grupo étnico, especialmente cuando convive con otro u otros.
in english: to cause racial awareness in an ethnic group. specially when coexisting with each other
i think it has been stated that the topic ended. and you cant really bash on the royal spanish academy definition of the word. since it is the one that dictates the definitions in spanish, how to write, and what words are taken out and put in in the languageSo because you think the topic has ended my opinion means nothing?
english is the only right language that exists in the worldStrange statement. You should know more than half the world population can't speak or understand english at all.
Just out of curiosity - and don't lock the thread - how many people are minorities in their country? No thread locking in debates.
I'm talking about minorities. They're the ones who suffer through racism the worst, most of it is culture discrimination, which is even worse and I think should be more of a focus then mere color of skin.Just out of curiosity - and don't lock the thread - how many people are minorities in their country? No thread locking in debates.
I don't get your question though. I think in most, if not all coutries, the biggest part of the population is still the families who've lived there for several generations.
just said that since msg said spanish definition of the word was wrong.english is the only right language that exists in the worldStrange statement. You should know more than half the world population can't speak or understand english at all.
agreed. racism can be caused by sterotypes in culture and how people look. and its a lot worse since it shows ignorance in peopleI'm talking about minorities. you are totally right msg, its outdated as of 2011 where they added around 5 new words and english is the only right language that exists in the worldWhat? A view can be outdated no matter when it is written. My grandad said yesterday something about cars that was so out of date! It doesn't make it right because he said it recently.
What has language got to do with anything? If something is wrong in English I would say the same thing - I think it's wrong.
kk, this got opened againjust said that since msg said spanish definition of the word was wrong.english is the only right language that exists in the worldStrange statement. You should know more than half the world population can't speak or understand english at all.
Just when walking across the street, seeing somebody taking an extra sidestep when passing you, giving you a disgusted look or anything like that, can ruin someones day.But people would do that with a criminal too, it's not racist exclusive.
But people would do that with a criminal too, it's not racist exclusive.Only 100-1000 people would know you're a criminal.
And how many people do YOU know that would cross the road if a black man came the other way?Probably my whole town...
But that's because of crimes, not because of their skin colour. If there were no crimes would people still cross the road for a black man?And how many people do YOU know that would cross the road if a black man came the other way?Probably my whole town...
You gotta know more than 60% of all crimes here are are committed by immigrants, when they're about 5% of the population.
But that's because of crimes, not because of their skin colour. If there were no crimes would people still cross the road for a black man? There'll always be crime and it's getting worse every year.
i agree with negazari, stereotypes do create racism.
You all live in bad places then, with a lot of ignorant people.I rather be ignorant and safe than surrounded by 20 moroccans cuz I took the wrong turn.
Hull is probably the worst city in England, maybe only Glasgow is worse in the entire UK, and we have no racism at all.
I have to agree with Mizari..You all live in bad places then, with a lot of ignorant people.I rather be ignorant and safe than surrounded by 20 moroccans cuz I took the wrong turn.

In this town:
Talk back to a white guy: He says mehh, and walks off.
Talk back to a moroccan: He calls his friends, they stalk you for the following week and when they get a chance they kick your ass and rob you.
No stereotype.. every single on of them.
I didn't realize this was a racist site.....If you still don't know why we're racist, that's pretty ignorant.
I have a sort of rule..Ignoring someone while he's robbing you *applauds* :D
"As long a person comes to me with good intentions... I return them. Bad intentions... I ignore those people."
It is for every skin color, age, gender, race ... what ever.... Like I said before... It are those few that ruin the reputation of the people who actually want to do well.
