Title: Pow News: Could teenagers be stopped at looking porn?!
Post by: Mr.PowPow on April 26, 2012, 07:38:25 PM
The British government have noticed that its too easy for young children to access online pornography and they are currently debating whether they should impose more control over the internet to make it harder for children to access it.
Lets face it, even a 7 year old is smart enough to disable the safe search and type in "naughty" words, heck even younger kids can do it so long as they are curious enough. So what is your stance on this? Do you think that the government has the right to impose more restrictions on the internet to protect children, or do you think its the parents responsibility to protect their children?

I don't disagree at all, but the government considers it as smut and a bad thing that corrupts children. However in regards to -young- children (say, 5-6 years of age) there can be some psychological damage by watching porn.

it depends. i saw my first porn video in 1st grade and ended up well. i believe sex shouldnt be shown as a tabu and start opening up society and actually teaching kids how sex can influence them, affect them in negative and positive ways.

Well the effects of pornography are progressive and addictive for many people. Just as every person who takes a drink does not automatically become an alcoholic, every child who is exposed to pornography does not automatically become a sexual deviant or sex addict. However just like alcohol and smoking, if left unchecked it can seriously harm. Children can grow up to be sex addicts (a commonly used argument but bear with me) or possibly the trauma from watching porn the first time can have a lasting effect that distorts how sex is viewed in the real world. Some become addicted to porn and their view of sex is "to watch it, but not be apart of it" and this can possibly create stalkers and those weirdos in the park. But like you said, not all. But it -can- happen, and thats what is worrying.

But I totally agree with you, kids should be introduced to the concept of sex at a more earlier age and in a less restricted way, I mean I had sexual education when I was 7 and even then they were so vague I was only given the basic concept, but they didn't really inform me on what I didn't already have a general idea of. If parents keep on sheltering their children, then of course they are gonna go out on one night stands and experiment, no wonder the teen pregnancy rate in the UK is so high lol

You know... This will just raise questions by the kids like...

"Why aren't we allowed to google this"

And then they ask older brother or sister and ...

Yeah, my point is... This is something you CAN'T stop.

Watching porn early makes you grow up too fast. They later get cocky and miserable because their childhood wasn't long enough.

i dont think that will happen, at least it didnt to me. its just that sex has become a taboo in our society. i love how in our society, killing is seemed as less of a problem than an act of creating life. games, animes, movies, tv shows. all have killing and still sex is a taboo

Let's see here, for us (in the Philippines) we were taught about the reproductive system when we're around 10-12 years old. Notice I say the "reproductive system" not actual "sex ed." So we got the general idea of how the biological aspect of reproduction worked, but not so much on "how" it actually happens. Most of us (the guys at least) learned the act of sexual intercourse mainly through watching porn. And most of us are doing ok.

Granted, I lost my virginity when I was 9 or 10 so I guess I'm not really at a position to say things like how sex affects normal people.

I guess so, but violence is everywhere, you can't really hide it when you go out onto the streets. You have a more better chance of your child seeing a kid getting beat up on the way to school than to see a couple getting busy in the bushes. By that logic, since violence and conflict is so common, the media thinks its okay to sell it. And violence sells, it sells very well. Since its morally wrong to preform the media believes that simply watching it is okay and a better way to vent than going out and beating people up. But there is obviously a flaw in that.

Yeah, but children shouldn't be watching it yet.

Agreed. What is the point of banning them anyways. The sites with all those flash games and such ... will get WAY less visitors and there are many sites that will have less visitors.

Everything related to sex is makes you live longer. except for SM...
Too much masturbation is said to lead to loss of braincells though.
Live a long and stupid life :)

right. masturbation decreases the chances of prostate cancer but too much can lead to excessive release of endorphins which can kill you. in fact, i remember a topic in the other forum about that, but he masturbated like 45 times in a row. in general, too much of anything is bad for you

Having fought the SOPA of the US government im against the country having such rights. If approved it will open a door of encouragment for the government to deny other cotent on the web that doesnt abhere to their taste. China is an excellent example of this and the local people resent this. In said example, the people use ultrasurf to access government restricted content, which leads to federal arrest of broken government laws. I do not beleave this is the right way to go.

But Ive digressed. Its the

parents job to supervise their kids. But Jonez raises a valid point too. Porn veiwing cant really be stopped

Yes it can. By making it illegal to say porn or pornography or porno.

Then there will be no porn. Just adult movies.

They can't make something illegal in the entire world just like that.

Just pointing kids in the right direction would be good enough.
Pushing makes things worse. Not doing anything is really bad too.

When I was a nipper long before tinterwebs we didn't have sex education until age 14 or so, but we all knew pretty much everything by about age 8 or 9 from the school playground, and most had discovered fapping on their own by 10 or 11. I had my first "proper" GF at 13 so it was before I even had sex education.
Even without the internet people will find stuff, and there will always be MP4's of porn on their phones or whatever they are nowadays, back in my day it was VHS and you had to wait your turn until the person harder than you had finished with it :P
