The Elder Scrolls races
« on: November 28, 2014, 10:21:38 AM »
So as you may know I'm playing Oblivion nowadays and I was wondering...
The races for Tes are based off real world races right? So I never really completely read which race is based off which real life race. But i do have a decent idea and I was wondering if my prespective is accurate.So what do you guys think is this accurate:

Nords = Vikings
Imperials = Romans
Redguards = Arabians
Bretons = Chinese or Indians?
Orcs = Mongolians
High Elves = British
Wood Elves = Australians? Africans? Some sort of minor canibal race?
Khajit = ummm..Americans?
Argonians = Nazi germans???
Dark elves = I really don't know this one

And while w're at it here's a hypothetical question : If you lived in tamriel which race would you be and which particular god would you worship? (sheogorath doesn't count. Because his the greatest god and comparing him to any other is just blasphemy)

They certainly take inspiration from real life cultures/races but they're not setting up each race as a 1:1 carbon copy of a real life equivalent. It's not as simple as A = B and C = D.

Dunmer are something like North African migrants are in Europe
Orsimer are like the Native Americans in the US
Khajiit make me think of Jews
Bosmer are to Altmer like Ireland is to Great Britain
Argonians are East-European/Russian

Khajiit make me think of Jews

"Jews" aren't really a race. Jews are usually Arab or white... But yeah I kinda agree with you on that

I know that,that's why I made this topic. Since not all races are 1:1 Everyone can have their own perspective.
For example,I think the Altmer are brits 'cause altmers like to act all high and mighty and they are an oppressive race. Similiarly to what Indian history tells of brits in real life.
But you can have as different prespective of that,maybe think they are japanese or something.
I wanted to see how opinions vary.
