Title: PSP Games that don't require joystick?
Post by: Cupcake Fury on July 05, 2012, 10:08:14 PM
I was wondering what good games there are for PSP that do not require a working joystick.
My joystick is just completely fucked up and Im assuming that the only way to fix it is to get a new joystick or something else like that, which is why I need/ want games without use/ requirement of joystick.

I think most of the fighting games on the PSP don't require the use of the joystick. There are also a few RPGs that don't require it either.

Uh... none of the games in the Disgaea series or the Final Fantasy series (except Dissidia) require a working joystick to play, iirc.

Sorry I can't be more specific. It's been awhile since I touched my PSP. :/

Tried almost all FFs but anything to do with menus and that's a no. Disgaea is one yes, n so is patapon.

Really? Don't you use the arrow keys to navigate the menus?

Also, try NIS' one-shot games like Phantom Brave or ZHS. And the Prinny spin-off series.

Actually, you can change the control settings so that in Dissidia, you move using the directional pads, which changes the analog to be used for the camera.
My analog is also messed up and I've never needed to change the camera angle during battle.

I personally tend to move the camera a lot, so joystick use is more important for me. But yeah, if you can live without adjusting the camera angle, Dissidia is a must-play.

IIRC, these don't require a joystick:
That's all I can remember right now.

IIRC, these don't require a joystick:
  • Final Fantasy IV: Complete Collection (IIRC, anyway. I'll go get my copy later and check)
  • Any PSOne Classic (in some cases, the joystick isn't even compatible)
  • Patapon
  • Patapon 2
  • Patapon 3
  • DJ Max Emotional Sense Fever (not recommended, but I'm not sure if any others work without the joystick)
  • All Taiko no Tatsujin games
  • All Hatsune Miku: Project Diva games
  • Invizimals (this is only an assumption, as it is mostly menus because it's a Pokemon semi-clone with AR stuff...you need the PSP camera for this, btw)
  • Rock Band Unplugged
  • Lumines
  • Star Ocean: First Departure (IIRC, anyway. I'll go get my copy later and check.)
That's all I can remember right now.
The FFs do as the stick makes it imposivble to play, not sure about SO I would check if my disc reader wasn't broken.

(If you take your joystick to gamestop theyll fix it up cheap but you might want to un-hack your psp before you do that [if its hacked])
