If you're talking average american salary (which would be about $10-15 per hour), hell, that'd be enough to buy a mansion if you plan right.
College or university is so damn expensive in USA though. A 3 year bachelor degree here in Belgium costs about 2-3k. Master is 5-10k at most.US government should fix that asap.

Plus scholarships are quite common so most of the time, people don't pay the full tuition rates. I'm going into a $20K college for free because of scholarships

University students often get scholarships too.
