Ok so I always thought shooter games were too multiplayer gameplay focused. So I really didn't care before. But with games like Bioshock Infiniter and The last of us existing.I'm having a change of heart. So yea...any good suggestion for shooters with brilliant stories would be nice, thank you.(I like fantasized stuff but don't see much of 'em in shooters,so if there are fantasy styled shooters out there that'd be great!)
-
To name a few:
Half life series
Portal (not exactly a shooter, but it has that sort of element to it)
Fallout 3
Crysis
F.E.A.R
Borderlands 2
and I've heard people say that Deus Ex has a good story.
-
System Shock 2 <- The OG Bioshock
Half Life 2 <-Good plot but excellent storytelling and the greatest level design in any FPS ever. Widely regarded as (one of) the greatest FPS game of all time.
Brothers In Arms <- Good storytelling. Plot is a bit too similar to those like "Saving Private Ryan".
-
Well I did some googling and I'm definitely taking Fallout 3 and Borderlands 2 into account.
But in case of Borderlands 2 and Half life 2 don't I need to play the previous installments?
Also why are most good shooters disgusting horror styled or military styled?
-

Well, the first Borderlands had a rather vague story, it was only until 2 that it actually gained a real story that which went with its amazing gameplay. So you can play the first if you want to, but it isn't really necessary. But both games are definitely worth playing for their gameplay alone.
As for Half Life, I think it'd probably be best to play the first one first, then the second.
-
The Uncharted series is good. Gameplay-wise, go with 3. The second entry has pretty much a lengthy and enjoyable campaign compared to 3.

Considering that multiplayer is non-existent? I'd say so..

lol apparently you didn't realize I posted this on the PC section of games.....

Necrovision

Necrovision
Lol world war reference plus survival horror the basic two elements of shooters in one....
I searched some images for it and it actually seems good
-
It's a good game. Not as polished as COD but a lot of fun.
-
Necrovision
Looks good. Reminds me of RtC:Wolfenstein.

Nah, not really. :/

Nah, not really. :/
This warrants punishment! No more boobiez for you.
-
Call of Duty (by Infinity Ward) campaigns are pretty good. Fuck Treyarch :/
Not sure if Fallout qualifies as a shooter, but it has a nice story too. The DLCs add some nice finishing touches to connect the storyline

Yeah you should. Best to get a HL1 pack which has HL1, Blue Shift and Opposing force.

Hah! Jokes on you! I've decided to become self-sufficient and grow boobies on my own!
Max Payne 3 is good shooter with an excellent story. It's about a drunk and angry man with guns who's good at being drunk and angry. Plus guns. Actually, the story's pretty depressing, being a Neo-Noir. Max's complicated narration style will hook you up, though.
Haven't played it, but LA Noire. Heard that it's not much of a shooter though.
Dead Space. Try Dead Space. I haven't. :\
-
So I downloaded Half life.
But I'm not sure if I should get borderlands 2 first or Fallout 3 :/
-
Borderlands has boring combat but fun loot. Fallout is more or less the same. The difference is in game speed, Borderlands is a bit faster than fallout.

Borderlands? Boring combat? I disagree, the RPG elements that are integrated into the combat are what make it fun. From a plain shooter perspective I guess it doesn't have much to offer, but that isn't really its selling point. It's something you have to play to understand, you can't just watch gameplay.
-
I've played 1 o.o
I didn't play the whole game.
Pros: Beautiful graphics, loot!, interesting characters, LOOT!!
Cons: Meh level design, really bad A.I. It's just aim, shoot until red bar depletes, switch target, repeat.
The main selling point is loot. The game barely forces me to think. It was loads of fun, even though I only spent two hours playing it, but you have to acknowledge obvious flaws.

That's why I recommended Borderlands 2, because most of those issues were solved. I wouldn't recommend the first one for this thread because the story is practically non-existent. The second Borderlands has probably the most clever AI I've seen and there is an actual story thats mixed in with the comedy. Plus the RPG elements have been more smoothly integrated into the gameplay and it's just generally better.
The first Borderlands was more like the prototype for the second one. It practically mirrors the transition from Portal to Portal 2.
-
Bitch you're the one who brought up BR2 ><
I said BR!
Anyway, how good is the AI in 2?
-
In BR2 they actually employ tactics when facing you in combat, how they react depends on how you tackle the situation, or sometimes how you don't. Like if you take cover in a shack or an enclosed space, the group of AI bandits will slowly start to circle the area around you, but they won't run at you like they normally do, they may even to opt to chuck a grenade into the area to flush you out. However there are different bandits who employ different tactics, but the tactics become much more evident the harder the mode you are on.
I remember facing an enemy from a distance that was hiding behind cover, but he wouldn't come out of hiding until I started reloading. Which I thought was pretty smart. Of course some of these quirks you may not notice depending on what class you are playing as, so each playthrough will be a different challenge.

Let's move this topic then to a better section.

So fist and pow......
SHOULD I GET BORDERLANDS 2 OR FALLOUT 3!!!?
(exclamation marks and caps were necessary)
-
Fallout 3!
-
Borderlands 2!!
-
You two are such interesting creatures....
I guess I'll have to toss a coin or something to choose which one to get.
-
You enjoyed Skyrim yeah? You'll love fallout.
-
Let's move this topic then to a better section.
It was put on the PC section for a reason, Jonez. :/
-
Seeing as Priom's specifically looking for PC games, I put the topic back where it was.
Also, personally, I'd choose Borderlands 2 over Fallout 3. I enjoyed it more overall.
I've only put in a few hours in each game, though.
-

Yes I know but see I've been seeing reviews and trailers about both b2 and f3 and this is what I see;
Fallout 3:Made by bathesda which also made skyrim. Is a shooter rpg with unique rpg elements and dark themed story.
Borderlands 2:Made by 2k which also made Bioshock Infinte. Is also a shooter with unique rpg elements and a rather comedic looking story and lovable art style.
-
Yeah. Fallout kinda depresses you with it's ugly (so well done that you actually feel like it's barren) surroundings. If you don't like that then go for BR.

actually I see both of there atmosphere in a positive way.
That's the problem

And Fallout 3 is a bit more tactical than just shooting. There is this thing called V.A.T.S where you pause the game, select a part of the enemy's body to shoot at and fire for increased damage. Unless you're a fan of post apocalyptic worlds, you won't really like Fallout 3. Borderlands on the other hand can be enjoyed by anyone who just wants a good time.

Yes that tactical thing got my attention too...
But in the end I actually did flip a coin and it's borderlands 2....

Oh boy, Chief Powhatan Wahunsunacock would be please >->

I think I've played every good shooter out there so here's my advice on the best ones with a good storyline and cutscenes:
- The Last of Us
- Farcry 2 + 3
- Max Payne 2 + 3
- Assassin's Creed (not rly a shooter but great story)
- Uncharted 1,2 & 3 (best game I've ever played)
-
- Assassin's Creed (not rly a shooter but great story)
I think that game is ANYTHING but a shooter.

Assassins Creed III kind of qualifies... And AC2 has a pistol in it
Modern Warfare has a good story
Halo
Borderlands
Bulletstorm
Last of Us
Uncharted
Mass Effect
-
Is Far Cry 3 counted as a shooter?
'Cause it's amazing.
-
Halo
Mass Effect

I can't help but think that there's some kind of weird sarcasm in your post

The placement of Assassin's Creed is unbelievably random.

Well, 3 did have shooting elements. Very... very tedious shooting elements.

And so will Black Flag
-
More shooting in Black Flag I'm sure, but that doesn't really make it a shooter.
-
So how is Left 4 dead story wise?
I'm curious
-
I don't think L4D has a solid story. You have 4 badasses who can take out hordes and hordes of infected and other mutated creatures.
-
Yeah, L4D is a classic zombie survivor game: no story, just killing. Not sure about L4D2 though
-
Super fun though. One of the best game's I've played. Fuckin' Valve and their immaculate level designs >_>
-
sadly it doesn't sound like it's fit for me then
