Title: The most important question you'll ever be asked
Post by: PriomBlazer on May 06, 2015, 08:24:07 AM
guys guys guys!
I have a very important question!

Thanks to all the giveaways on arpegi and the glorious blessing known as F2P I actually have legally owned games on my steam library!

But what if I ever change computers. Can I reinstall the games by logging into my steam account on the new computer or do I have to keep some sort of bvackup or something?

I have a feeling my laptop might die soon. So I really really need an answer to this question.
Thanks in advance.`

Yes you can reinstall the games through your steam account.
However you may have to back up your games if you want to keep your save data, but it depends on the game.

I concur.

Look, when I upgraded from my gaming laptop to my OP (in my opinion) desktop, I just had to login to steam and I was able to play my games. You might need to go through some security hoops with "Steam Access Codes" that get send to your mail and such.

^I would do that for those games that don't support cloud saving.

Dropbox works too.
O_O. Brilliant. Nice man, I actually never thought about doing that.

I wonder, does the Dropbox Sync lag your game...?

I don't really understand this thing. What is that?

Dropbox is an app that syncs files inside a specific folder between computers (and phones), which means you would have access to the same set of files on more than one computer and they'd be updated automatically on all devices each time the files are modified on one device. You need to make an account and also be able to install Dropbox on the devices you want synced up, though.

If you own more than one computer that you play games on, you can install Dropbox on them and keep your save data inside the folder that Dropbox syncs, so you wouldn't need to manually copy over the files each time you switch computers because Dropbox would update the files for you.

It's useful for games that don't have cloud-saving features.

I see no reason why it would. Files are uploaded/downloaded when modified and games only modify files when updating or saving. Theoretically the only downside would be using double the amount of data when downloading an update as Dropbox would upload it onto your cloud.

Maybe the game might not be able to load save files from other folders and such. Hrm, I need to research this.
