Well, apparently Atlus isn't bankrupt, just Index which practically owns Atlus. So they're gonna have to start selling of part of their company. I just hope Atlus ends up in a good 3rd party company. I'd hate to see the Etrian Odyssey series on another console that isn't the 3/DS.

Etrian Odyssey wouldn't be so bad on other handheld consoles, the PSP for example. Though the more major consoles probably wouldn't uphold the turn based dungeon crawler element, since that seems to be thrown away in favor of fast paced action, the newest FF being a prime example.

I really doubt the Etrian Oddyysey series can survive on anything other than the DS or the 3DS. The cartography aspect is one of it's major draws and it was only made possible due to the dual screens. If it were to be implemented in the PSP or the Vita, you'd have to go to a separate screen every time you want to draw the map.

Of course they could just make fill in the map automatically, but then it goes against the very essence of EO, which is a throwback to the old first person and tabletop dungeon crawlers.

Really? The map drawing is one of the things I dislike the most, its amazingly tedious. I like manually mapped the first two floors of the 1st stratum and never did it again, I just allow the map to manually fill itself, if you explore all the squares of a dungeon then its pointless anyway. I think it can easily survive without it, the sheer difficulty ( or rather the time consuming nature of the game) is enough to make it enthralling, then again I'm only playing the first EO, so my opinion is only based on that, I do hope the map drawing doesn't grow in importance :/

I adore the mapping system, it's really addictive. I frequently went back to past dungeons in EOIV just to make sure I perfectly mapped out the whole area.
