The Monado.
It's a lightsaber that lets you see into the future and alter it by creating shields, raising your team's speed, making itself 5 times bigger and creating a cyclone.

And that's not even its final form.

The first thing that comes to mind is this:

The gunblade, its so iconic its not even funny. It's like a gun.....but a sword as well! D:
granted it can't actually fire bullets, it just uses the recoil to propel its swings at a higher speed, but that's what makes it so unique and awesome.

That thing is so unwieldy that swinging a dead baby is more effective!

If you had read my description, the gun is used to propel the blade. So naturally it's going to be unwieldy without the use of an extra force.
In FF Dissidia this is further elaborated in the fact that almost all of Squall's moves incorporate the revolver into the swinging, making his weapon quite powerful and fast. But also in Dissidia its capable of firing bullets too, meaning its an all-range weapon, compounding its adaptability.

What I'm talking about is the build of the sword. A sword with such a large blade cannot have a hilt placed at such an awkward angle. It places too much stress on the wrist, not to mention the awkwardly placed trigger.

Also, the wielder of the sword is a little bitch. (Ha, take that you!)

But it can be saved. Shorten the blade, and move the angle to somewhere on the middle of the blade, like a Kukri and make the trigger more accessible. The hero could wield two if he wanted.

Pic related. It's a Kukri.

Most weapons from FF7 and thereon after are designed to do one thing-- to look cool.

Nah, since the sword is propelled by a revolver, making the blade shorter would be disastrous. The swing would be too fierce and would potentially break your arm, the blade needs to be long and heavy for the weight to compliment the driving force. So that your arm is not being swung out of its sockets. The whole point of the Gunblade is that it's heavy and requires recoil from a gunshot to propel it. Using a lighter blade would make that point redundant.

Though the hilt problem is true, its an awkward angle. But that can be changed without the main blade undergoing any changes. The blade itself is fine.

Aw yeah muh nigga

Since Alien has videogame adaptions, I think it's safe to acknowledge this (http://avp.wikia.com/wiki/M41A_Pulse_Rifle) baby.

Most of this thread has been about swords, how about we show some gun love? Fictional guns especially.
