The PS2 Games Thread
« on: December 03, 2013, 08:34:52 AM »
You knew this was coming right after I posted that tidbit on the spam thread, so here it is.

Here we'll discuss about our favourite PS2 games and such. I figured this should in the Retro section since Sony discontinued PS2 production.

So starting off, do you know any game that doesn't really require a memory card? Something arcadey, like Mario Kart 64. I never had to save in that game but it was tons of fun.

Fighting games, racing games, and sports games technically don't need memory cards, since all you have to unlock are usually just stages/tracks and characters/cars/teams.

For fighting games I'd recommend Tekken, Soul Calibur, Bloody Roar, Dead or Alive, and Digimon Rumble Arena 2, for racing games there are Gran Turismo and Burnout, and I can only recommend Smackdown vs Raw for sports games since I don't really like most sports games in general...

Of course, playing with friends is what made them really fun for me, so YMMV.

Thanks, I'll look into those. I've already made a list of games I'll acquire but most of 'em are RPGs, which I won't even bother to look at until I get a mem card.

Oh god, a thread dedicated to the most commercially successful council ever? Oh jeez. Oh man, so many fantastic games... so many horrors of gaming too...

Of course many people will remember Jak and Daxter, Ratchet and Clank, resident evil 4, and many other high profile games. But there were so many hidden gems in the PS2 library that rarely get to see the light of day

Oh boy, the PS2 library is probably the best of any console. I don't have time right now but I'm posting here so next time I log in I will know to come back.

If you ever want to give Jak and Daxter a go, here's a low down of the thoughts for each of the games in the series.

Jak and Daxter - This shit feels like if spyro and crash had a baby, too easy
Jak 2                 - This is pretty fun. Oh wait, omg, I died.... it set me back HOW FAR?! OMFG !@#$% It is a good game, but ruined by the difficulty and horrible checkpoint system
Jak 3                 - This game is pretty fun, but god damn, some of these bits are boring as hell.

Another good series that I eventually came back to after originally hating are the Kingdom Hearts games. Oddly fun is all I can say.

Do you like flying games? One of the best hidden gems I ever came apon is a game called Sky Odyssey. It's surprisingly a lot of fun, and the gameplay is fairly solid for just flying 'round and stuff. Plenty of gamemodes, secrets, and unlockables for you to try out too.

Know what is also surprisingly fun? Or at least, to me it was. Pac-Man World-2. I loved it, and, it has a good deal of game content. However... one level towards the end can take like... an hour to do =_=

hmmm....
bumbabumbabummm....

Oh. OH OH OOOOHHH. Want a couple solid games on a league of their own? Try Ico and Shadows of the Colossus.   The later of the two I found to be more fun, and, it feels really rewarding to finish that game.

I'ma just list a few for now and come back laterzar

Psychonauts
Klonoa 2: Lunatea’s Veil
Killer 7
Heavenly Guardian  <---- A lot of people downgrade this to hell, but, in my opinion, it is a solid rpg
Metal Slug Anthology <---- For that Saturday spent at the arcade feels
Growlanser Generations <---- Try it, trust me
Katamari whatever it is called

more laterzararararar

Aside from your usual popular PS2 games, I've played several little hidden gems

Sitting Ducks was one of my favorite PS2 Games as a kid
Incredibles is extremely underrated

I found another old and obscure PS2 game called Phase Paradox that is fairly similar and looks good. I'm downloading that too.
