To be fair thats a wise decision, I have a lv42 Lucario and I really want to swap him, yet I've put so much effort into training him. He's a hard hitter but he takes hits like a bitch.

I'll say now (since you have the same version as me) that there isn't an awful lot of electric types apart from the rather terrible Galvantula, if I were you I'd stick around that ranch and see if you can obtain a Mareep. That's the best electric type you'll find.

Its either him or Magnemite or Genesect. I had all 3 and the gym was a breeze.
I won't take part in tournaments...sadly as I could do what a dick like me with Skills of Haxor in breeding.....Ninetales with all stats at 20, Hp at 18 in level 1, Adamant Nature....or to put to perspective... Higher Stats after EV Trained than a half ased Legendary..
